We had the good fortune of connecting with Catt Yiu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Catt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was driven by the desire for full autonomy over my time and efforts. I aimed to have the freedom to pursue my interests, delve deeper into subjects I was passionate about, and achieve mastery of my choosing. I envisioned a seamless integration of my work and personal life, where there’s a common thread allowing for a smooth flow between the two realms.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Oh my favorite topic! I’m most excited about the perspective of physical and mental movement as embodied art—transient, ever-changing, and uniquely experienced in each moment. I consider the relationship with oneself as sacred, and in my instruction, whether in yoga, pilates, or meditation, I see myself as a conduit of optional guidance for the student to consider. My approach empowers students to choose what resonates with them, encouraging self-listening and self-teaching.

Professionally, my journey has been a blend of challenges and growth. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t, but overcoming obstacles is a part of my evolution and that in itself is worth it. The key is perseverance and trust. Along the way, I’m learning invaluable lessons about resilience, empathy, and the power of authenticity.

I’m particularly proud of my guided meditation podcast, ‘Spiritual Electricity.’
The name represents the vibrant energy and profound connection one experiences when delving into the depths of their inner being. It’s that electrifying sensation that courses through the body and mind when we tap into our spiritual essence -it signifies a heightened awareness, a sense of aliveness, and a profound connection to something greater than ourselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
During mornings, we’d kick off with yoga, Pilates, or an easy jog, followed by a cup of coffee or matcha; my current favorite cafes are MadLab and Lalaland Kind Cafe. Midday adventures might include visits to museums or scenic hikes; the Huntington Library Garden and Griffith Park would be good options, followed by picnic lunches we could bring to the beach, from Erewhon or some snacks from Liu’s Cafe in Ktown. Evenings would be reserved for eating, of course – we would definitely make a trip to Bavel, Saffy’s, Golden State for burgers, Summer Fish, and Hangari Kalguksu for knife-cut noodles.

In my opinion, the views and food are superior in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, who was my first teacher. Throughout my childhood, she instilled in me a valuable lesson: ‘You don’t need to be the absolute best, you just need to try.’ These words have guided me whenever I’ve ventured into new or unfamiliar territory. It reminds me that perfection isn’t necessary; what matters is showing up and giving it my best effort. Thanks to her wisdom, I’ve embarked on numerous adventures in life, and I hope to continue doing so.
