We had the good fortune of connecting with Cecilia Tripp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cecilia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me, the most important factor behind the success of Laurel Canyon Creative has been the humanity behind it, the genuine connections, and the passion for wanting to help others tell their stories. I think that has really helped us stand apart from others in our industry. When you work with LCC you know that you are working with people who genuinely care about you and your organization. You’re working with people who make mistakes, who allow you a safe space to make your own mistakes, you’re working with a group of women who come as they are, and who are constantly making an effort to learn and grown and further educate ourselves in our industry.

What should our readers know about your business?
The idea for Laurel Canyon Creative came about in 2017 when I began doing more and more social media consulting on the side. I met with a friend one afternoon and after giving her a two hour crash course in all things social media marketing she lovingly placed her hand on mine and said “I’m paying you. Don’t ever do that for free again.”

From there I started to research how to start a business, I took several online classes to learn more about the industry, and by January 2019 I was officially a registered LLC in the state of California with three clients and a big dream ahead of me. It’s been a difficult journey to say the least. Feelings of imposter syndrome, anxiety over how to find new clients, beginning my family in the middle of building my company, figuring out how to afford support so I could do things like take a maternity leave, etc. have all been some of my biggest battles. Some of the most important lessons these battles have taught me is that…

1) I am capable of far more than I could have ever imagined.
2) It is incredibly important to find support so that you can allow yourself breaks from the work. Otherwise it will seem like you are working far more than you ever have and that is absolutely unacceptable. I no longer subscribe to hustle culture. I am all about a much slower lifestyle.
2A) Moving through life at a slower pace does not mean that you don’t work hard. This was a very hard lesson for me to learn.
3) It is OK to say no to opportunities that don’t align with your company’s values. No amount of money is worth your sanity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohhhh…if my best friend was coming to town…I feel like there are too many options and a week is never enough.

Let me break this down into categories because that’s how my brain works.

We’d be eating at…
– Spumoni’s Italian Restaurant on Ventura Blvd
– Tacos El Venado in North Hollywood
– Katsuya for Sushi
– Ysabel’s in West Hollywood

We’d be adventuring to…
– Descanso Gardens in Pasadena
– Disneyland
– There’s an amazing hike in Calabasis that I’m forgetting the name of but it looks like the Dell computer background. It’s amazing.
– Hiking Fryman Canyon
– Seeing a show at the Hollywood Bowl
– Driving through the hills
– Hanging out in Temescal Canyon park and then driving to the beach to watch the sunset

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to begin with a shoutout to my LCC team; the two women who gave me the confidence and the courage to start the business – Julie Logue and Emily Feldt, and my two assistants who help me keep the train moving – Brittany Assel and Haley Wolff. Next a shoutout to three women who are constantly recommending me to organizations and individuals who need social media and branding work; Jessica Sherman, Grace Johnson and Devika Tandon. And to those who worked and collaborated with me in the beginning of my journey, particularly Sam Valentine, as we played and experimented with her One Broke Actress brand often.

And finally I need to shoutout some of my biggest fans, the ones who have been a constant champion of my work; my husband, my parents, my siblings, and all of my friends. Every person in my life has never questioned my decision to start this company and that has been such an incredible blessing.
