We had the good fortune of connecting with Chandler Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chandler, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity. When my partner and I were creating our tarot app Dvn8, we knew we needed to incorporate unique technology to help us stand out. Our desire to have users connect to their readings authentically led us to the invention of our patent pending algorithm, Gyr8. Our Gyr8 technology selects cards based on the user’s energy rather than using a simple random number generator. As we built out the rest of our platform, we found over and over again that authenticity was core to each building block. I’m not shy about my LGBTQIA+ identity and knew that I wanted to unequivocally incorporate a gender-inclusive outlook in our card descriptions. We’re also incredibly passionate about our privacy transparency because we believe that our users deserve respect when it comes to data privacy and communicating plainly about how and when your data is used. All of this has allowed us to craft a brand that we feel is truly authentic and without compromise. The feedback that we receive from our users reflects this as well and keeps us on track to continue making products that are aligned with this goal.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The decision to build a brand of our own was somewhat born from necessity, but also out of a desire to help others. When my previous employment ended due to COVID, I was left wondering what to do. I have a really varied background in law, art, and business operations, so it was actually kind of a perfect fit when my partner, a seasoned programmer, suggested that we create apps together. I was able to leverage my professional skills to build our business from scratch while my partner coded everything we could dream up. My own tarot practice and fascination with divination was the inspiration for our first product, a tarot card reading app called Dvn8. The focus in all of our apps is to find your inner truth as a means of coping or healing. At the end of the day we want to provide products that enable people to connect.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to Melrose to peruse all the random, indie shops. It’s such an eclectic mix of youth and niche culture and you never know what you’re going to find. From there I would see about grabbing gluten free cupcakes from Sweet E’s bakery while winding my way up to Carbon Beach in Malibu. I adore the scenic drive and even more scenic view from what is always a relaxing beach experience away from the loud crowds. I would definitely end the week with a gluten free pizza at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood for a fabulous send off…now I’m hungry!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner Koa Wood is instrumental in everything I do. We’re not just domestic partners but also business partners. It can be tricky to navigate a personal and business relationship, but I think our communication skills have improved tremendously throughout the process of building our business. It’s also so rewarding to see our hard work come to fruition, especially since we’re intimately familiar with how much we’ve both put into this venture.
