We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlene “Char” Baluyot and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlene “Char”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My spirituality. Char and Roses was founded in 2017 while I was living in Brooklyn, NY. That’s also when my spirituality came full speed.
The healing and overall journey was uncomfortable, rough, messy and dark. Everything came at me unexpectedly while being in business school full time and working 3 jobs in NYC. Ironically, it was during those tough times that I unraveled my gifts and my true desires. I also learned self awareness and moral intelligence, which I think are essentials when it comes to going after the success you want for yourself.

Char and Roses still lives, grows and prospers today because I choose this spiritual journey that continues to help me be authentic and not force anything upon myself and my company that isn’t aligned.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Char and Roses is about restorative healing through writing, movement and energy work. The company’s slogan “Embodied, Mind, Body and Soul” is the goal as well.

We live in an era where healing/self-development is encouraged, but most brands are selling products to make us reliant on them instead of providing the tools that we can utilize on our own. I share journaling prompts, dance videos and other body movement, plus energy healing methods that I personally use, to encourage people that living life with ease, peace and joy is possible for them too – we all just have to be willing to do the necessary work.

Being where I am today was not easy. It took a lot of patience, trust, healing and making sure I am grounded in my truth. I overcame the challenges by being solution oriented instead of allowing myself to complain and let problems overpower me.

I can talk all day about lessons, but one thing that I hold dear is knowing my morals, values and my own definition of success helps me not say yes to every opportunity. I’m proud to say that I am in a space in my life where I know my worth and truly believe in myself as a person and as a business owner.

I want the world to remember Char and Roses for its depth. Just like the Rose flower, most only choose to see it bloom, but forget that it had to grow thorns first.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ooooh,I always go for the scenic places in LA. Malibu and Marina Del Rey are my favorite beaches out here.

Arts District for all the cute bars and restaurants and I would take them on a hike to Runyon Canyon.
Malibu Bluff Park for a cute picnic moment!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without Aki Baker, owner and founder of Minka Brooklyn as well as Tanai and Wesley Holder, owners & founders of SoulWERK Academy, I wouldn’t be as grounded and at peace with choosing this path.

They were the energy healers and teachers that guided me from the start. Their patience and trust in me helped me trust in my own gifts, path and overall Self.
