Meet Chas Stickney | Color Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chas Stickney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chas, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success on happiness and passion. If you have those two things, the money will come. I see people who work jobs that they can’t stand all the time, even if it makes them good money. I don’t think money is the only thing that makes you successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hair is my art. I never really felt artistic until I found hair. I was in a nursing program in high school. I thought that was my career path. But it took no time to figure out it wasn’t for me. Then it hit me one day- I wanted to do hair! So I talked to my hair stylist about her career and asked her tons of questions. It made me that much more interested. I did attend college for one year and I quit to pursue my passion. Once I learned how to formulate color and saw the beauty in coloring and shaping hair, it was a no brainer for me. I found that I’m IN LOVE with creating blondes, dimensional brunettes, reds, coppers, and violets on my clients the most! I love seeing the whole process unfold. My biggest lesson learned with my career is to learn as much as you can! Soak it all in! Learn what you love doing the most and do it! You’ll never know it all so keep learning all the time!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would brunch at The Butcher, the Baker, the Cappuccino Maker in West Hollywood. BEST BRUNCH in the entire city!
Then I would take them to walk the Sunset Strip and see the iconic area that the salon I work at is located.
Then we could head down to Venice Beach for lunch at Belles Beach House. Their Poke bowl is out of this world!
Enjoy the sun and sand all afternoon before heading back home to Koreatown and get ready for dinner at Escala. That restaurant is so unique and the food is amazing! We would have to visit the iconic Disneyland too! Then I would take them hiking in Griffith Park. That’s my favorite hike!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give recognition to my partner, Jason! He is my best friend and my rock! My family has always been by my side and supports me through it all! Love you, Mom! Every single educator that instilled the knowledge I have in my tool belt deserves recognition. Lupe Voss, Geno Chapman, Hanna Walden, Ronnie Appel, and so many more! They have all helped me grow into the hair stylist that I am today!
