We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Jason Crain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chef Jason, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Success is catapulted through taking risk! It’s easy to stay in the area of comfort but growth comes from making hard decisions. When I made the choice to leave the grind of the restaurant world it was scary because I was comfortable with punching a time clock for someone else until I realized I was loosing myself, loosing my passion for cooking. Then I met my partner which helped me realize it was time to let that world go and focus on sharing my love for food and providing a culinary Experience the Crain Way!!!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Culinary is a art form like no other! It allows me to express how I feel through meal preparation, presentation, and flavors. It has not been an easy road! This field is demanding, stressful, and can be unforgiving but staying focused on the big picture has allowed me to survive and thrive. Through the journey I’ve learned that another factor of success is having a team with clear vision and understanding of what the Big Picture is. That’s why we started The Crain Experience, we are a full service Personal Chef company that provides restaurant style service in the comfort of the client’s home, and we provide decor as well. We are here to bring the client’s culinary vision to life!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: Dinner at Fixins (LA Live) Day 2: Explore Hollywood
Day3: Comedy Show (preferably Chappell)
Day4: Winery Tour
Day 5: Coastal Ride up PCH
Day 6: Boat excursion to Catalina
Day 7: Breakfast @ Hunny’s

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve had the pleasure and blessings of working next to some amazing chefs, Steve D’Angelo, Emeril Lagasse, Matthew Kalinakos, and Chef Renny (my partner/fiancé). Each one of them were able to help my tap into a talent and skill set I was unable to see early on in my career. They taught me that food is much more than just something a person eats…food creates memories of enjoyment with family and friends, and when done right satisfies the soul!
