We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Perkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
The simple answer is to never give up. You can always pull yourself out from the rut and get back in line with your vision of what you are here to create. Keep going.
I used to struggle with this a lot within my mind. Earlier in my career, I would hustle working late nights serving and bartending barely getting by trying to save as much money to get my music projects off the ground. At times it felt as though my goals were impossible. I have a strong connection to my emotions so I always have to take a moment to stop, breathe and get rational and logical with myself before those emotions take over and halt my progress.
What I’ve learned is it’s essential to have good people that surround you who will give honest feedback. Just a few individuals who will give it to you straight, because we all know mama is gonna love everything you do and some of your closest friends will lie in order to avoid hurting your feelings. Learn not to get offended by the feedback so that you can grow in order to get to that next step. I would remind myself that I have a great product. I believed in my music and myself even when others didn’t and now I work with those people!
If you are 100% enrolled in your vision it’s not that hard to get others to believe in you. Keep going.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to make fun upbeat girl power music. There is something truly powerful about creating art for in my experience it directly creates the kind of life you end up living. When I used to write a lot of sad songs I noticed the same sad stuff happening in life. Once I shifted my mindset and started to write music from an empowered place was when my life changed. I want to be empowered, fun, silly, confident, authentic and I hope to create that ripple effect onto others.
I am a pop musical artist from California signed with 83 Sound. My 8 track ep ‘A Girl From Cali’ is out now on all streaming platforms please go check it out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a big foodie so I would just recommend a bunch of food spots. Most of the places I go to are local. Unfortunately, due to covid some of my favorite places have closed down permanently (Barrel & Ashes).
Noho Hot Chicken is a food truck that has the BEST Nashville hot chicken in LA. Cilantro, which is in a Chevron station in North Hollywood, has the best burrito EVER. Always need to make time for In & Out. Salsa and Beer in North Hollywood has delicious authentic inexpensive Mexican food and yummy margaritas. Plate 38 in Pasadena has exceptional food, and also has a delicious inexpensive happy hour. Black Market in Studio City has delicious food and cocktails and you might spot somebody famous. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Devon C. Johnson for being my first mentor in music, my manager Andre Hibbert for seeing my vision, Mastery in Transformational Training for supporting me to grow into a leader, my label 83 Sound for wanting to take it to the next level, and of course my loving and supportive family! Love you MOM!
