We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheng Hao Chen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheng Hao, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Building the mid map. Before I take any further action, I always make a sketch of the process and potential outcome to make things more controllable and traceable. By doing so, I could run things efficiently and being prepared to deal with the problems with ease.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a student study in bachelor performance degree, and my main instrument is drum. Every artist is apart from each other cause we all have different way to represent feelings. To represent feelings in music is extremely abstract, and under the instruction from my college instructors, I had already built my own understanding that how to present in music, which was pretty hard and took me years to get the mind I have now, and I’m proud of myself with it..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely bring my friends to concerts and local jazz bar. The music culture in LA is so different in my country, including but not limit to vibe, audience, and the level of the musicians.

Then we could go to the beach, the mountain, and the dessert to let them feel the diverse weather in California.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, I want to present the biggest appreciation to my parent. They have supported me in my whole life to discover almost everything. The mind and the experience that I ever have will not happened without my family’s support.

Secondly, I want to shoutout to my mentor Fred Dinkins. Every friends of mine and even myself can tell how much that I have improved under the instruction from him. Mr. Dinkins always point out the core of problem and break it down with logical, understandable way with the simple but efficient acts.

Last but not least, I want to shoutout the love to Tianqi Wang, one of my best friends. He is such a positive person that can bring lots for motivation into your life. I believe life is all about the process, and he’s the guy that can maximize the joy of every moment.
