We had the good fortune of connecting with Chia Ling Yang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chia Ling, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Taiwan. I’m a motion graphics designer. I have been really interested in Art since I was a kid. Therefore, I went to the art school and studied Commercial Design in college. Four years of training has helped me build a really solid foundation and knowledge of art and design which really impacted me being a motion graphics designer as my career today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My graphic design background gave me an advantage of being able to bring creative and aesthetics skills into storytelling and make the animation more vivid and easier to communicate with people. Drawing inspiration from my experiences, my work seamlessly blends Eastern and Western influences. My art is a reflection of the moments that I have experienced throughout my life, resulting in a style that is truly one-of-a-kind. Being a motion graphics designer isn’t my intention. One day I accidentally saw a motion graphics piece in an exhibition and it attracted me immediately. From that day, I decided to learn more about it and that brought me into an animation world. Transitioning from traditional art to the digital world is very challenging. Not only do I need to think about the graphic differently but I also need to learn a new skill to make it come alive. The most challenging part of being a motion graphics designer is being able to create pieces and communicate with the viewer in an effective way is extremely important.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Brooklyn is a beautiful and inspiring neighborhood in New York City. It has captured my heart as a favorite spot. The historic architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and waterfront views provide a unique and enchanting backdrop that has undoubtedly influenced my art. The neighborhood is a cultural hub, home to art galleries, creative studios, and cultural events that foster creativity and inspiration. The energy and atmosphere of Brooklyn have sparked my imagination, and the neighborhood’s dynamic spirit can be seen in the vibrant and eclectic pieces that I create. It is no wonder that Brooklyn has become a significant source of inspiration and a special place in my heart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really thank my parents for letting me do what I love and always support me. Even though they know being a designer or artist as a career isn’t stable and isn’t a career they wish me to be but they are still very supportive.
