Meet Chisato Chavo | Painter & Tattooist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chisato Chavo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chisato, why did you pursue a creative career?
Makes me calm and balanced, also almost automaticity `I draw everyday,

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do painting and tattooing. I start painting earlier than tattooing. I often draw people, clouds , and abstract thing, I am trying to draw atmosphere of favorite music.

My childhood was not very easy, middle school also, I took train to my school, and train on my way home was most peace and calm moment a day.
I listen to music and look at artistic clouds, that moment save me a lot , those are symbols of peace for me. that’s why clouds and atmosphere of music often appear in my creation.

Maybe follow the clouds and music,
I departed for backpacking for a year in my early 20th, I was keep drawing since kids, but wasn’t serious.
On this travel, I met many friends liked my drawing a lot, and some asks for tattoo design.
I feel like I could people made smile with my creation is really amazing.
So I went tattoo studio for apprentice after back to Tokyo, for 3 years.
Then departed to Nepal, work as a tattooist there then again go to travel for 4 years.

Absolutely it wasn’t easy .
I over come with moving hands everyday… simple….
Lots of night I couldn”t sleep, saw darkness then draw and listen to music.
without drawing, I didn’t”t have control my self.
I draw what I feel peace and beautiful, so keep drawing gave me confidence I am still ok I can draw this , my drawing save my self at least.

in same time my world was getting so wider .
Met great artists in big city to jangle, landscape and music, so my drawing and design has changed a lot, I draw at snowman cafe with chai in Kathmandu, on the bench in modern art museum in NY, on the floor of guesthouse in jangle Peru with unknown bird singing.

Now I am settled in Netherlands,
I have my own table and chair here, and drawing clouds and music , simple days.
I was too nervous to help or make somebody happy , but actually just do what I like and enjoy it , then naturally arrived somebody.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will bring them to my favorite forest, we go with bicycle, there is lovely cafe by the river. Buy a best bread in the town there, for next days breakfast. Go strolling and hug trees, go to dance.

Slowly slowly, good coffee , good food , good music .
