We had the good fortune of connecting with Chivan Lim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chivan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is our community! And we’re talking about our very local community here in Olympia/Lacey Washington.

I think a lot of times people try to early to expand to the world without first connecting with their communities and really focusing on the home towns and influences that brought them up. We love a good home town hero.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets WINEHOUSE apart is our writing processes and approaches to live shows! For us it’s more than just the music, but a whole performance. With some of us being theater kids and dancers, we incorporate a lot of theatrics into our process and choreography dancing.

We got where we are today by working with the folks around us. Our families and close friends bring us up higher than we could ever imagine, and we bring them up the same way.

One of the important lessons we’ve learned along the way is small steps are everything. Never take for granted the small opportunities that are given to you and awarded to you. Appreciate everything.

WINEHOUSE is a group that wants to influence groups to do the same. If you’ve got friends, if you love music, why not start a project? It’s a ton of fun and very rewarding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okayyyy let’s go!

Let’s start in Olympia and get breakfast at Hash. It’s fun, little cramped, but the food is bomb.
Working out is very important to WINEHOUSE so maybe we’d catch a workout with our friend.
Next, let’s get out of town. We’re headed to the beach!
Drive down to the Oregon Coast, let’s hit up Cannon Beach. Spend a day at the beach, get some ice cream, soak up the sun.
After that we can drive up, windows down, music up, we’re headed to Jazz Alley in Seattle.
Nothing like some Jazz and dinner.
The next day we’ll plan a party of sorts, barbecue, and host some volleyball.
WE LOVE VOLLEYBALL.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Brandon Nguyen – He was a main writer in the Hanover Drive EP, the project would have not been possible without him! iBuildBridges – This is a project that brings up young musicians and folks of many different backgrounds to share positive messages and create communities within music.
Tyler Mays – A loyal producer who worked with us in our Hanover Drive EP as a producer and mixer.
Laura Ogren – Photographer and backing vocals within recording over the last couple of months.
Kenzie Maurer, Dakota Harworth, Kyle Summers, Alex Rekow – Our band outside of the band! These folks have made the music possible.
