We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Bautista and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chloe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always wanted to start my own business, I just didn’t know in what. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I started out doing graphic design and project management, but I didn’t find it too fulfilling for my life. When I started doing hair, I loved learning and getting my hands in hair. It pushed myself to be just as good as all the other stylists and colorist eventually making my way as a Colorist at Salon Benjamin. I loved being hands on, like really itching to do hair and do fun stuff with hair. I felt limited though, that’s why I thrived to begin my journey to be own boss, even if it led me to do hair until 11pm. My clients love that I’m eager to work late for them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I treat my profession more like a work of art rather than a job. I’ve learned to trust my instinct. I think my energy that I put out helps a lot. There are days where I feel anxious about a project and when I start feeling that way, I reward myself with either a latte or a list of affirmations before I go out there. I’m still thriving for more, and there’s so much more that I’m capable of, even if it means it’ll take another 10 years. It’s definitely a roller coaster ride.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m typically always in the city area, but I love the nightlife in Silverlake.  When my friends visit, I love taking them dancing at fun 70’s and 90’s bars.  I also enjoy amusement parks considering I’m only a 15 minute drive from Universal Studios.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Valerie Ayala is my ultimate inspiration for starting a business. She always had the drive to do it, but actually did it. Her determination to become a business owner and opening up her own waxing studio in less than a month has deeply inspired me.
