We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Mata and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is having the courage to follow through on my vision. Seeing the future clearly and making sure to follow through and execute actions that will have a direct impact on the reality of my business whether that be online business courses, keeping up with the latest in human psychology and behaviors and continued training in the combat arts arena. The success of my brand relies on integrity and good business practices. I always see myself as my own customer and treat my clients how I want to be treated.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Punch Kick Pro provides training for boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, taekwondo, jiujitsu, and self defense. I have studied each one of these separately for years and understand their philosophies, weaknesses, strengths and efficacy. I’m also a student of human behavior and understand that every individual requires an individual approach. I’m most proud of my ability to retain clients for years. I have endured success and failure countless times and readily share my experiences, coping mechanisms and ways of acceptance.

Even more exciting is being able to branch out to different areas. I now offer two locations: one in Hollywood and now one in Long Beach.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots in Los Angeles is Figaro Bistro on Vermont Ave in Los Feliz. They have both inside and outside dining in a very trendy part of the city. Their food and drinks are reasonably priced and they have a very generous happy hour. It’s a great place to stop in after a hike through Griffith Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe much of my teaching style to the book The One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson. I use the methods from that book on a daily basis. The book was a gift from one of the greatest teachers/mentors I’ve ever known, Mike Payne at the Academy for the Martial Arts out of Springfield, Virginia.
