Meet Chris Recinos | Entrepreneur, Boxing & Fitness Coach, and Yogi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Recinos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, how do you think about risk?
We are all risk takers; from the moment we wake up, every single decision we make has a risk. Taking risks is something we must do. Certain decisions, of course, have a higher risk than others.
In my life, taking risks has been skewed to more serious consequences. For as long as I can remember, the decisions my parents and I made resulted in detrimental risks. However, I have been blessed by having a tough upbringing- not everybody goes through that or survives it. Due to this, my view on risk taking has always been like, ” that can’t be worse than that time when… “. The worst thing that can happen is failure, but I have overcome that plenty of times. As an young entrepreneur, I have had old bosses, family, colleagues and random people tell me that venturing on my own as an entrepreneur would be the wrong choice for me. I guess none of them knew I have been through worse things than failing to be an entrepreneur.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is that I combine Strength & Conditioning, Yoga and mobility into full body workouts giving my clients the most well-rounded experience they can get. My mission is to help them move, connect with themselves while achieving top athleticism. At the end of every session, I ask my clients, “What are you grateful for today?”. Not only do we focus on the body, I also incorporate mental and spiritual awareness.
It was not easy being a young, brown man in the fitness industry. I was often overlooked by other people in the industry because of my age and my story. I learned that when no one believed in me, I had to believe in myself. I want people to see my brand and my story, not as a story of struggles, but as a story of perseverance and hard work. We often forget that the person that matters the most in this world is yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First off, we would visit some of my favorite hiking spots- Temescal Canyon, Escondido Falls, Culver City Stairs, and Kenneth Hahn. We would also take a drive through the Hollywood Hills to enjoy the scenery.
I would take them to experience what LA is known for: the food. I would start at one of my favorite Salvadoran restaurants in South Central, El Paseo San Miguel and order pupusas and empanadas de leche for dessert. Gracias Señor for their amazing breakfast burrito after our hike at Temescal Canyon. Leo’s Taco Truck for late night tacos. La Monicas for slices of pizza. FIN for a nice sushi and drinks dinner. LA Press for Acai bowls.
We can’t forget the beach. We would ride bikes along the bike path from Will Rogers to Torrance Beach. Also, maybe catch some waves at Sunset Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out The Harold Robinson Foundation for mentoring and teaching me the value of what a strong community can do for children in the inner city. They showed me the importance of what kindness and love can do for others. Also, shout out to the whole Just Keep Livin’ Foundation for taking me under their wing as a high schooler and teaching me the importance of movement, mind and body connections, believing in my passion and eventually hiring me as one of their coaches.
