Meet Christian Olvera | Founder & creative director : Chrispy’s Luxury Barber & Shop

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Olvera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind Chrispy’s Luxury Barber & Shop success is that I’m a Master Barber. I can relate to up-and-coming Barber’s. We’re always willing to give prospects looking for a place to call home a chance to better themselves and guide them the right way into professionals in this trade. They know they can always come to me for advice and I’m more than willing to lend a helping hand in order for them to reach their goals and better deal with setbacks or bumps along there road throughout their careers. Now that we are also moving into the grooming product manufacturing the same experience applies. Being that we are barbers we know what products work best. Not only for your hair but also your skin wether its for styling, shaving, beards, or just everyday essentials. So our job is to formulate and manufacture to perfection premium luxury grooming goods.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from other barber shops is the fact that we are owned and operated by barbers. Oppose to a corporate establishment or a business ran by someone with capital and a business idea but no expertise or knowledge of our trade. From barbers, receptionist and apprentices, we try to give people who want to be in this business a chance. With the decades of experience we are able to come up with the best ideas and solutions and create great energy that helps us thrive.
Now that we came up on two years of business, we are moving into the product side of things as well. Chrispy’s Luxury Grooming Goods is our next project. It’s only right that we take back a little of what’s ours. I think for a long time companies have took our knowledge and exploit barbers only to pay them crumbs while they capitalize and make big profits. We aim to reintroduce the classic rituals of grooming and self care. So its a very exciting time for us.
We’ve gotten to where we are today by working extremely hard. Ive always moved forward with a mindset of being a student of the trade. Always learning and soaking up knowledge.
We opened up our doors during COVID in the summer of 2021. It was a very frustrating and difficult time as a business owner. I was tasking a big risk not knowing how things would play out, but in the back of my mind I knew if we made it past the setback we would thrive once things got back to normal. It was tough but I gathered a great team and just grinded day by day. Our clients always supported us and made it easy for us to grow little by little. Here we are two years later still growing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them one of the best times ever I would take them to some of my personal favorite spots.
I’m from the South Bay so ill start with a morning walk along the beach. From Manhattan
beach to Hermosa beach. There we would grab breakfast at American junkie. So good.
I’m into art and a big art collector myself so definitely hit up a museum. The Broad would be great so they can see the Disney music hall and get a feel for downtown as well.
Grab a bite at Wurstküche in the arts district. My personal favorite links there are the rattlesnake and Buffalo paired with a Hefeweizen beer.
Would end the day with some mezcal drinks at one of my new favorite bars in DTLA. Bar CDMX . An underground gem playing Spanish rock and wonderful vibe. I’m born in Mexico City so it brings back wonderful memories.
Start off in the South Bay as well. A hike in Palos Verdes. Some of the most beautiful ocean views from the top of the cliffs.
Brolly Hut in Lawndale would be our breakfast/lunch place. It’s a small mom and pop charbroiled burger place that’s been in business almost 40 years. They serve the best breakfast. Strongly recommended the chili cheese fries or pastrami as well.
Grab a cold beer at a local brewery. Either Common space or LA Ale Works.
Catch some waves on our boogie boards at El Porto. Finally end the day with a steak dinner at one of my favorite places. The San Franciscan in Torrance. Delicious steaks with big side portions. Live music and great bar vibe.
Breakfast at Urth cafe in Hawthorne. Delicious food and a big variety of hot teas is a plus since I’m not a coffee drinker.
A hike on the way top Hollywood would be next at Kenneth Hahn state park on La Cienega. One of the most beautiful places for almost 360 views. Pacific Ocean to the west. Downtown the east and Hollywood to the north. Simply amazing.
A drink at Molly Malones on fairfax would follow. A dive bar that’s been in business for over 50 years.
Then head to burgers99 for the best burger in town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my parents and grandparent. They sacrificed their lives and always put us first to give us a better future. They immigrated to this country from Mexico and ever since they touched down they hit the ground running. I remember my grandfather (RIP) waking up at 4am every morning to collect cans for recycling. My father now in his mid 60s still wakes up at 5am to be on time at the construction site. Ive been blessed to always have strong positive remodels to look up to. They always work extremely hard to take care of their families. My mother also deserves a lot of credit. I come from a big family. I’m one of 5 kids so she was always a stay at home mom. Always made sure we had food on the table, clothes on our back and roof over our heads. As cliche as it sounds my moms cooking is truly the best. She still plays a big part in our life’s. Wether its helping my siblings and I pick up and drop off our kids from school or cooking our favorite meals to still guiding us and giving us the best life advice. It’s a blessing to have grown up w both my parents. Never take that for granted.
Lastly shoutout to my son. I think becoming a father has always pushed me to do better. I see a lot of myself in him so I always try to be a great role model for him, I don’t think there’s a blueprint on fatherhood so we learn as we go. I’m definitely not perfect but I’m always trying to be a better version of myself. He deserves it.
