Meet Christian Vincent | Emmy Nominated Choreographer, Actor, Artistic Director, dancer and Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Vincent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, how do you think about risk?
I believe that my entire career as whole could be looked at as a career of risk. There are no guarantees of a job, career or longevity in the entertainment industry. I chose a career that has no set steps to take with regard to education to achieve success. I think the idea of risk was overshadowed by belief in my creative desires and goals. I simply believed/believe in myself. Belief with the support of my education overshadowed the fear of risk .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
On paper I am an actor, dancer, Emmy nominated choreographer, artistic director, dancer and educator. I believe what has set me apart from some, or many is partly due to my education, tenacity and versatility as an artist. I am a renaissance man of sorts. I am honored to be an Emmy nominated choreographer that garnered BET its first nomination in a scripted category by choreographing the series The Porter. I am proud that I was one of the first leading black actors in the Hallmark franchise. I have the distinction of being a lead on the first Black gay TV series, on MTV’s ….Noah’s Arc. I was fortunate to start my career as a dancer working with musical icons like Madonna, Prince, Britney Spears, and Ricky Martin. Being a dancer was the beginning of seeing young Christian’s dreams come to fruition.
I have always had good instincts regarding my work. As a performer, I have authenticity. As a choreographer/creative director, I have a great eye and knowledge pertaining to the other technical and creative departments I work in tandem with on a set. My main motto is happy to be here and easy to work with. While working hard, I also like to create a good working environment.
In addition to being a creative, I am also an educator at heart . I have even been a professor at USC Glorya Kaufman school of Dance and still travel around North America teaching and mentoring young dancers. . My talent as an educator has been an asset in bringing the best out of the performers and the students I work with.
I have arrived at this point in my career by sticking to my craft, continuing my education, and believing in my abilities. It has not been an easy road because I have constantly had to evolve. Evolving has entailed maintaining a healthy mental mindset and looking ahead and not behind me. I have had to continually push forward through challenges and continue learning. I have had many jobs in the past that I thought would be “The BIG One “that would forever change my life however, my career changes have been incremental and not instantaneous.
I have learned along the way to continue to do what I love, I have always had multiple titles and skills as an artist that have helped me thrive. I have also learned that my career as a dance educator has been my way of giving back to young up and coming artists. Mentoring has been quite rewarding. I even started a program called Kairos Pro Dance Prep, which is meant to educate young dancers on the business of Commercial Dance in LA.
I want the world to know that Christian Vincent the actor, Emmy Nominated choreographer, dancer, educator is a talented artist and kind human being, that wants to leave a profound legacy through his art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
lol… This is a funny question as I travel so much that when I am in LA I like to do the mundane and relax . However, when friends come to town, I love to be a tourist in the city. I want them to experience Grauman’s Chinese Theater, The Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood and Highland, Beverly Hills/ Rodeo drive shops, Universal Studios, Disney, the bars in West Hollywood (The Abbey for the big pieces of cake lol) , food at the Grove ( Sprinkles), and eating Brazilian food at Bossa Nova on Sunset . I have even done the Hollywood bus tours just to find out more about the historical aspects of the city. I love the feel of “Hollywood” and if there are any events held by The Television Academy or dance events put on by the LA dance community…. I like to go.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly, my success is a direct result of the love and support of my family which includes my mother (Manzella Vincent), Father ( Benjamin Vincent) and brother ( Benjamin Vincent Jr (B.J Vincent)). It was this trio that travelled out of country to get me educated as a dancer. They drove me from Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan for dance training multiple times a week. As a teenager my parents invested in trips to New York and LA to utilize dance scholarships I had won and to further my exposure to the dance and entertainment realm. My brother even helped me purchase my first car when I first moved to LA. My family was a source of support not just financially but emotionally. I appreciate my parents pragmatic approach to encouraging my education .It was this mentorship that led me to get my Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts. My education has served me well and is a big contributor to my longevity in my chosen field as an Artist.
