We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Dankert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what principle do you value most?
Kindness.

Both kindness to others and kindness to ourselves is extremely important. When we are kind to ourselves, it gives us more space to take care of ourselves and then others. One act of kindness creates a ripple effect and continue to positively affect others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wrote “The Kindness Machine” as a way to help spread kindness into homes and classrooms around the world. The book focuses on kindness not only to others but kindness to ourselves as well. As a mother of two and an elementary educator, I want my children and students to be many things. However, when you really focus on what is important, I want them to grow up to be kind human beings. My goal is that “The Kindness Machine” will help shine a light on how simple, yet how important kindness is.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Toledo, Ohio has a lot of unique activities to do such as visiting the Toledo Museum of Art, The Toledo Zoo and the large variety of Metroparks. I would invite a friend to visit in the fall and grab a coffee from one of the many coffee shops and then explore one of the Metroparks. We would finish the evening with dinner and drinks at local bar and restaurant Inside the Five. The next day would include a visit to MacQueens Apple Orchard, a local family owned orchard to pick apples, drink cider and enjoy homemade apple fritters. A new metropark would be explored and we would soak up the beautiful fall colors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Kaitlin Johnstone, founder of Kind Cotton. Kaitlin nominated me for this interview and she is making an impact each day through her apparel with positive messages in which each purchase helps put a book in the hands of children.
