Meet Christina Sledge | Co-Founder of Sledge House Media, Author and Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Sledge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We developed our risk-taking skills pretty early on. My husband, Eddie took a trip on the New York City subway by himself at nine years old to see his favorite baseball team play. I went alone to obtain a summer job when I was 14 years old and waited in line for over 12 hours. We both have the drive to succeed and determination which makes risks less scary. During Christmas break in 1999, Eddie proposed on a whim, and we were married two months later with only fifty cents in our pockets. We took a leap of faith which was very risky. We had faith in our union that it would all work out for the best to guide us and here we are 23 years later, happily married and running a media company which was also started by taking a risk.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a husband and wife writing, publishing and production team. We founded Sledge House Media, a cross-platform multi-media company. We co-founded the company to self-publish our first book, The Story of Christina and I, our memoir in 2021. After publishing our memoir, we knew it was important to share it and all the other content we have in the pipeline with others.
Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road throughout our twenty-four-year marriage.
We started our marriage with only two quarters. At the beginning of our marriage, we were a military family which required us to navigate and learn how-to balance military obligations and raise a family. Also, at one point in our marriage, we both were unemployed.
Those early struggles taught us resilience. When obstacles come our way now, we dust ourselves off and keep moving. When more than one obstacle comes in our path, we just tackle each one at a time. We realized early on that if we could survive both of us being unemployed at the same time, we could survive anything.
We are driven to succeed. We rely on each other and our faith to get us through the rough patches.
We are extremely proud of our body of work thus far. Collectively we published eight books, two essays and produced two short films, Joined by Fate and Maryland Closed for COVID. Five of our books are bestsellers on Amazon. We tell diverse and compelling stories that highlight unique experiences and backgrounds. Additionally, all of our books are 200 pages or less to reach readers that are limited on time. We also offer indie authors self-publishing consulting services. We help make the self-publishing process easy and stress-free. We also recently launched a Sledge House Media merch store: https://sledgehousemediastore.com/
We are very excited that our debut children’s book, A Day at Shea is out now! It’s based on Eddie’s true story of going to his first baseball game at Shea Stadium in Queens, NY by himself. The main character is reimagined as a girl, Chris.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are located in the D.C. / Maryland and Virginia area also known as “The DMV” to locals. We would have afternoon tea at the DC Waldoft Astoria.
Eat at 18 & 21st in Columbia, MD for dinner. It’s a really cool speak easy that plays live jazz.
Visiting the various museums and monuments in D.C. is a must.
Another must see for various restaurants and things to do is the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to our book, A Day at Shea. Through our heartwarming book we want to inspire young readers to use their imaginations to dream big and accomplish their goals and encourage a sense of community and the love of the game of baseball. A Day at Shea also encourages representation for Black girls and women in Baseball.
We also want to dedicate this shoutout to our readers, viewers, fans, supporters, followers, family and friends. We really appreciate your continued support. Thank you!
