We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Sassy Woof was created to fulfill my personal need of cute and stylish pet products. My inspiration behind the brand was our two petfluencers @Mayathedox and @Winstonthedox. I wanted to get harnesses and other dog accessories that truly represented their personalities, but I could not find exactly what I was looking for. So, with that concept in mind, I proceeded to do it myself! I was working as a healthcare executive and found the time during evenings and weekends to put my concepts into paper and execution. It took me 6 months from beginning to launch date on October 10, 2018, and the rest is history. I left my career the next year to fully focused on Sassy Woof, and my husband, a lawyer, joined our team full time in 2023. We are going into our 6th year of operations, and we are so excited to continue growing as well as securing major partnerships with retailers and franchises such as Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, Peanuts, Mattel, and many more!
  

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sassy Woof is not just another pet brand. From day one, I have focused on building a name that stands for quality, durability, and style. There are three main factors that sets us apart. First, our main core products are patented in the U.S., Canada, and other parts of the world. This speaks volume of our investment and commitment to innovation and style. Second, unlike many other companies in this category, we test every single one of our products annually using an independent lab. As pet owners ourselves, we are passionate about safety and function and thus these rigorous tests demonstrate the durability and longevity of our hardware products for daily use. Lastly, aside from being a pet company, we have an incredibly robust marketing team that showcase, highlight, and make our products fun to be seen everywhere! And yet, above all, Sassy Woof is a company that represents the power of women and minority entrepreneurship. We hope to be an inspiration to all women that would like to become entrepreneurs!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Washington D.C. has so much to offer for a good time! The district has amazing eateries and pubs. There are dozens of things to do including museums, parks, federal buildings, historic areas, and so much more! Notable mentions to Georgetown, Capitol Hill, The White House, and Chinatown area. Later in the day, we would take a short trip to The Kennedy Center to see many of the free performances. You can spend a week in DC and still feel like there’s so much to do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people to recognize in this journey, that still continues to this day! First, my mother, who lent me the initial capital believing in my dream. Second, my husband, who initially thought that my idea was silly and yet still supported me every inch of the way. Funny enough, the tables have turned as he now works for me! Third, I would like to recognize all the partners that have believed in the brand and our potential. Time after time we have delivered and continue to do so! Lastly, as always, everything begins and end with the team. I am so fortunate to lead a team of incredibly talented young professionals that get the job done, and I am so proud of what we do every day.
