Meet Christopher Zapata | Photographer & Film-maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Zapata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If you want to lead a life that isn’t stagnant, take risks. It’s a pivotal part of growth and decision making.
When you look ahead to the future and see a better one because of a risk/decision made. I say, do it. At the end of end of the day, it comes down to living in your authentic truth.
The risks I’ve taken has led me to be where I am today. I’ve made sacrifices to be able to continue pursuing the career I’m in today and wouldn’t take any of those decisions back.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart is my viewpoint. I am a self thought photographer from Harlem who is an only child. That unique experience positioned me to be an observer and developed into my ability to see the beauty in the intimacy between human beings.
With my work, I want to humanize or bring familiarity in the work that I create. I would say that one of the works that does that and that I’m most proud of is a personal project called Unidos. It’s one of the project where I got to explore and relate with other Afro Latinos on our shared experiences. It was hard to begin because of wondering if anyone else would relate to me. It thought me that I was wrong in thinking that and am happy that I was.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a lot of people shoutouts so I thank and shoutout any that has helped/collaborated with me over the years. I would love to shoutout Stephan & Kahni who have been motivators, motivation, and brothers through life. I also owe a shoutout to Scope Of Work for supporting me in developing my craft with love as they do so many others.
