We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Espinoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I personally have dealt with this dilemma all of my career. There has been many moments I felt like giving up completely it can seem like the easier thing to do, especially with the year we just had. When covid began my stomach dropped I knew the effects it would have on my business. But what really helped me is realizing I am not alone and so many of us have been hit. I know how challenging and stressful it can be when it seems like it’s just not working out but I remind myself why I began. That is where hope comes to play, hope means to not give up! Yes there has been many bad days but those too shall pass. If you don’t give up on hope and realize you can reach out for help I believe you’ll eventually find the right people, tools, and resources you’ll need to progress. Never stop believing in yourself, to have breath is to have a chance life is too short to give up!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a freelance makeup and hair artist based in Los Angeles. I do makeup for all occasions including weddings, parties, photoshoots, video/film, e-commerce, and any special event. I began my journey in high-school becoming the go to makeup artist where I learned quickly that this is my calling. I love to have fun when I’m doing makeup and create a memorable experience with my clients. It’s more than just doing makeup it’s very intimate being so close to someone so I make my clients comfortable I treat everyone like a friend. I love getting to know my clients on a more personal level you meet some really amazing people. I’ve had one too many hurdles on my path but I have never let them tear me down. Just to name a few I was in a terrible car accident leaving me carless for 2 years, so I had to use public transportation to get to any gigs and save for a new vehicle. I also had major health issues and was bed written in the hospital for 2 months but I’m glad to say I’m healed and healthy again. The unexpected hard hit of a global pandemic has also challenged everyone in the beauty industry. But I believe you can either dwell on what’s not working out or you can find solutions to your problems. I’m so excited for the months and years to come. I have a deep love and passion for beauty that has helped me view this life so beautifully and I want to share that with the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It might be cliche but it is one of my favorite views of this big city I love to visit the Griffith Observatory. There’s a magical feeling up there overlooking beautiful Los Angeles. I love how downtown LA has art-walks too the arts district in LA is so aesthetically pleasing I feel inspired every time I go. Los Angeles is home to some of the best authentic Mexican food, there are countless family owned restaurants and you truly can’t forget about the street tacos! Venice beach boardwalks are always fun there is so much to look at including street vendors, art, food, & music. You definitely think of Los Angles Lakers & Dodgers when you’re in town so attending either one of their games is the ultimate LA thing they’re so much fun filled with energetic angelenos. But I think one of my favorite experiences in this awesome city was my stay at The Standard in DTLA, cute trendy hotel with great rooftop access and views! Los Angeles has so much to offer I enjoy exploring my city. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I want to shout out all of my supporters who have been on this incredible journey with me. I come from a big Mexican family who cheers me on endlessly. My parents Isela & Ramon are no doubt the most supportive parents a creative child can ask for, my sister Alina and my brother Jacob are my number one fans. They keep me humbled & remind me where I come from. Recently my family suddenly lost two amazing members who taught me to never give up, work hard, & to believe in myself. My grandpa Roque closely followed by my uncle Daniel both assisted me with rides when I first began assisting when I was car-less. Their belief in me is something that I will always use to fuel my flame. This beauty industry has gaven me so many experiences and blessings, I’ve worked with some of the best mentors and beauty brands. Thank you to all my fellow creatives who have collaborated and worked with me.
