We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Maram and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe taking risks and risk taking is an integral part of and key to living a full and successful life, as well as a necessary aspect to business and making strides in ones professional life experience. If we do not take that leap and try a new path, which may lead to a better opportunity, then it could leave us stuck in the same place and unable to move forward. As a result, we may lose the chance to forge ahead into new and greater territory–leaving our business stagnant and left behind while our competitors rise ahead in the industry we were once relevant in.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’ve learned most from living a professional creative life in various forms and working in the creative and artistic industry is to embrace change, be willing to take risks, try new things, take every opportunity to learn new skills and ideas, as well as varying perspectives and ways of doing things. If you ever feel stuck, the best way to get unstuck and get things flowing again is to do something differently, move in a different direction and not be afraid to try something new. It’s okay to break away from old ways of thinking and ways of doing things. Some people may think that there is only one correct way to do something, however, if it is an outdated way of thinking or not bringing enough “fruit” and success in various forms, or if it’s hurting those in your team, then it isn’t working and you may want to rethink your strategy and start thinking outside the box to come up with some new ideas to improve. I learned that with change often comes fear. As humans we commonly fear change. Therefore, it’s important to possess a support system as we make changes, take new risks and move forward. Surrounding yourself with a team of peers and other professionals in your industry that have similar values and goals, who are all focused on striving toward success in life is important to stay grounded professionally and will help you feel more solid as you move forward in your career and toward your business goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, as well as Orange County and have also lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. I really enjoy the beaches and the California coast, as well as the mountains. So, if a friend came to visit I would definitely take them on a scenic drive down PCH and Highway 1. San Diego and Santa Barbara are both beautiful. And I would also take them hiking in mountains or if it’s winter, snowboarding in Lake Tahoe or Mammoth.
