Meet Coco Franklin

We had the good fortune of connecting with Coco Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coco, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started posting skate content online, back in 2016 I was living in Germany and wanted to teach roller skating full time for a living. I was teaching weekly yoga classes and handstand workshops at the time, but really wanted to put my focus towards roller skating, so I did and never looked back!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a content creator is a kind of weird profession. Simply because you feel like an artist, but are you allowed to use that word to describe what you do? When it comes to creating and editing my skate content, I feel like my one-shot videos are what I’m known for the most. When the video is unedited, and just one single shot, you can really see the flow of movement. vs a video that has cuts and edits. Either way I enjoy creating both styles of content and always looking for more interesting ways to film/edit skating content.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My husband and I moved back home to Long Beach during the pandemic. And since I lived in Europe for the past 7 years, I feel like I’m re learning Los Angeles all over again! But I think it’s kinda cool to fall back in love with LA. as it’s a forever changing, beautiful beast.
When my friends come to visit me in Long Beach, these are my must do’s.
Sunday- Sunday Funday at Legend’s on 2nd st in Long Beach. I’m getting the Cajun Club Sandwich with a Modelo. Or if we are there early, the bottomless mimosas.
.
Monday- We will spend the day skating in Venice Beach, listening to tunes of host skater, Chris Greenwell’s who’s made Venice on Monday a MUST to experience.
Tuesday- Beach at Alamitos Beach (LBC) in afternoon. Bomb Junipero Hill, skate the path. Then Padre’s for Taco Tuesday and margaritas
Wednesday- Morning Yoogalution On The Bluff. Then Head to Tru Nature Juice Bar for Acai. I’ll get the Dark Chocolate Bowl.
Thursday: Paddle board in the morning at Kayaks On the Water in Long Beach. Walk around on 2nd St. Visit House of Intuition. I’ll buy the money candle.
Friday: Check out the infamous Pigeon’s Roller Skate Shop on 4th st (LBC). Then head to Pigeon’s Roller Rink at PCH @2nd to try out our new skate purchases! I got some new rink wheels
Saturday: Brunch The Breakfast Bar on Atlantic then hang out at Long beach art museum all afternoon. End the day with a sunset skate on the beach strand.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout has to go to my husband Aleksei. He was one of the few people in my life who genuinely felt I shouldn’t give up when times got confusing and difficult. He was and still one of my biggest motivators and has helped me reach my dreams and beyond what I thought I could accomplish.
