Meet Connor Curran | Chief Laundry Folder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Curran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I decided to start my own business, the thought process was driven by a combination of personal passion, market opportunity, and a desire to create something meaningful. Here are the key factors that influenced my decision:
1. Passion for Community and Quality: I have always been passionate about building communities and creating high-quality products. I wanted to combine these passions to create a brand that not only offered exceptional clothing but also contributed positively to the community. This led to the founding of Local Laundry, a brand that focuses on Canadian-made apparel and community building.
2. Identifying a Market Gap: I noticed a gap in the market for premium, locally-made clothing that resonated with customers’ values of quality and community engagement. There was a growing demand for products that people could feel good about wearing, knowing they were supporting local businesses and sustainable practices.
3. Desire for Impact: I wanted to create a business that went beyond just selling products. I envisioned a company that could make a significant impact on the local community, support charities, and promote social responsibility. This vision shaped the core values and mission of Local Laundry and CDN.
4. Entrepreneurial Spirit: I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to build something from the ground up. Starting my own business allowed me to channel this energy into a venture where I could implement my ideas, take risks, and innovate in ways that aligned with my personal and professional goals.
5. Control and Flexibility: Owning my own business provided the control and flexibility to make decisions that were best for the company and its stakeholders. It allowed me to create a work environment that reflected my values and provided a great experience for employees and customers alike.
6. Long-Term Vision: I had a long-term vision of creating a sustainable, ever-growing company that could expand across Canada and into the US. This vision included not only growing the business but also making strategic acquisitions and building a brand portfolio similar to successful models like LVMH.
Starting my own business was a thoughtful and deliberate process, combining my passions, market insights, and a strong desire to make a positive impact. It has been a rewarding journey, and I am excited about the future possibilities and growth opportunities for Local Laundry and CDN.

Business Journey:
Getting to where we are today has been a journey of passion, hard work, and continuous learning. It wasn’t easy, and there were numerous challenges along the way. In the early stages, we faced the typical struggles of a new business—building brand recognition, securing funding, and managing production logistics. However, we overcame these challenges through perseverance, strategic partnerships, and a relentless focus on our core values.
Overcoming Challenges:
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring consistent quality while scaling our operations. We addressed this by partnering with trusted local manufacturers and investing in quality control processes. Additionally, navigating the competitive landscape required us to be innovative and responsive to market trends. We leaned heavily on feedback from our community to refine our products and services.
Lessons Learned:
Throughout our journey, we’ve learned several key lessons:
1. Community is Everything: Building a loyal customer base requires more than just a great product; it requires a genuine connection with your audience.
2. Adaptability: The market is always changing, and being able to adapt quickly to new trends and customer needs is crucial.
3. Persistence: Success doesn’t come overnight. It takes time, effort, and a lot of resilience to build a sustainable business.
4. Collaboration: Working with other businesses, organizations, and mentors has provided invaluable insights and opportunities for growth.
