We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Byrdsong aka Ice Meez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important part about pursuing a artistic career for me has been focusing on consistency. I learned that if you do anything long enough you will develop the ability to do it more efficiently
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a independent hip hop artist that has been making music for roughly 10 years now. I believe that what sets me apart from other artist is that I not only write my own music but I am also a self-taught Sound Engineer, Video Director and Graphic Designer. I owe alot of my success to my daughter Aaliyana because without her I don’t think I would have the drive and ambition to pursue such a big dream. With her cheering me on I feel like I can conquer the world. It has not been a easy journey but I have reached numerous milestones that most artist in my position only dream of so for that I am grateful. The biggest lesson I have learned from this music industry is that nothing is free and hard work will always overshadow talent. 1 thing I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my music is authentic and I am a example of how far never giving up can take you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If me and a friend spent time in LA I would definitely recommend shopping on Hollywood Blvd. I would follow that up by taking a trip to the late great Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon clothing store because I feel like since his passing that area has became a landmark for hip hop culture. When night falls we would most likely attend a show I’m performing at and then explore all the popular night clubs in the area to rub shoulders with other people in the music industry. When we get hungry we would definitely have to visit “The Breakfast Club ” because the food there is amazing
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I always had a passion for music but it wasn’t until my mother Gail Byrdsong entered me and my older brother Drew Byrdsong into the Indiana ” Black Expo ” that I decided to take it seriously. Since then I have developed my craft spending countless hours in my friend P-coat’s studio learning how to record my own music as well as engineering for other artist
