We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinne DeCost and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corinne, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Life is cyclical. Every opportunity will bleed into another. Every experience grows us for the next thing.

In high school, I wrote, directed, and starred as Angela in a cheesy Sleepaway Camp sequel. Back in my college days, I’d watch Sleepaway Camp with my friends every Valentine’s Day – and this February I was on set for my own horror-comedy movie with Felissa Rose, who starred as Angela in Sleepaway Camp.

I wouldn’t be running marketing and promotions for 501c3 nonprofit Multiverse Concert Series without having first run social media for my college’s performing arts office.

I wouldn’t be hosting at LA’s Pack Theatre or the behind the scenes of my own movie without a catalogue of experience hosting on Suffolk University stages (hosting the Welcome Week show, Suffolk Idol, the Student Government Awards, amongst others).

I wouldn’t be portraying major IP characters in immersive entertainment without playing Topanga in my college’s immersive dinner theatre production Boy Meets Murder, based on Boy Meets World.

And I don’t think I would be teaching young artists with Upstage Theatre Schools if I didn’t find that joy while directing Suffolk University’s only sketch comedy troupe.

I feel I was meant to do everything I am doing today because everything I have done has built up to this. I’m excited about what I’m going to do next, but I’m also proud of how far I have come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never imagined I’d be where I am today, but every little opportunity I took led me to meet someone or learn something and that helped bring me somewhere else.

During the pandemic, caring for my partner who was undergoing chemotherapy and primarily focusing on remote work, We were basically in super-quarantine, only I was allowed out to run errands and we had to be careful about even doing that. I could have let that crush my spirit. Instead, I did Zoom shows. I went out for Zoom audience appearances, just to feel remotely connected to show business. One day in November 2020, I was in the Zoom audience of the Wendy Williams Show, and the producers picked me out. They emailed me and told me they liked my energy, and asked if I would come back to play an audience game via Zoom in early December. Then after that, they asked me to come back again as Eye Candy of the Day in March. Weeks later, maybe in June, the producers for that show emailed to see if anyone was up to film a Zoom workout for a new pilot they were filming. That pilot was picked up, and so was the workout segment. I was then flown to New York to appear on The Nick Cannon Show – and by this point, October 2021, my partner was nearly a year out of chemo and it was safe for me to go. They put me up with my own hotel room, car service, and offered me my own backstage dressing room with my name on the door. Such a small opportunity – going on a Zoom audience – led to six total television appearances where I was addressed by name and had dialogue. I was on Wendy three times, and Nick Cannon three times.

I have a bit of an “Annie”, “sun will come out tomorrow” way about me, I always have. I think some of the strongest female characters are the ones who put themselves out there and try to make something of themselves something new – Dorothy in Oz, Alice in Wonderland. Even if they end up coming home after all of it – it was a great journey, wasn’t it? And no one sees their return as a failure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d do it all. Breakfast at Urth Caffe. Salads at Health Nut. Window shopping at Trashy Lingerie. All Seasons Brewing with my friends for margaritas, nacho fries, skee ball, and photobooths.

I love immersive theatre – there’s always something I have a friend performing in. I love theme parks, museums, bus tours. Anything to explore what’s around us. I’m on set plenty myself, but something about a professional studio tour reminds me how magical what I’m doing really is. You see it through the eyes of the people around you and realize all over again how cool even the little things are, and how much goes into it all. It’s easy to let the everyday become mundane and we’re always surrounded by magic.

I love searching on Atlas Obscura to find unique spots and historic sites to check out. There’s still so many on my bucket list. I’d love to experience one of those with a loved one, but I’d make sure they hit up the classic touristy spots first.
