We had the good fortune of connecting with Cornell Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cornell, how do you think about risk?
Deep down I am very cautious person who likes to analyze all possible outcomes of a situation so I can make a logical decision. When it comes to risk taking, the ultimate deciding factory is “is my greatest possible lost greater than my greatest possible gain”. Being open to taking a chance on myself has allowed me the opportunity to enter spaces I never thought I could, travel to destinations I never heard of, and form life long friendships with people around the globe. Taking a risk can be hard, it can be scary, but you never know what life you could be missing out on just by playing it safe.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been blogging and posting about my outfits for just about 8 years now. I started my style blog itstheseen.com my freshman year of college as a creative outlet and a way to share my passions with the world. Since then, I’ve primarily transitioned my content to social media, with Instagram being my main hub. Even from a young age, I’ve always had my own sense of style so that part came natural. However, as I’m sure most creators can relate to, there are times where you can get a little bit of “bloggers block” and feel like you are running out of ideas for content. In today’s fast paced social media climate, the algorithms and tools for generating engagement are ever changing as well. It’s easy to fall behind. Staying on top of the latest changes with these apps and maintaining the sources from which you draw inspiration for your work is the greatest way to overcome these hurdles. When I’m creating my content, my goal is to share something beautiful with the world. I want to inspire people. I want to get them exciting about fashion and style. It warms my soul knowing others are able to identify and connect with my work. That is the greatest gift.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The ultimate Cornell approved LA day would include the following:

– Wake up early for a sunrise hike at Temescal Canyon – panoramic views of the city and coast line
– Hop in your car and drive Downtown for a chic and delicious breakfast at the original Bottega Louie – best macarons in the city (possibly the world) and amazing french toast
– Once you’re done, take a 20 minute walk to the The Broad – a contemporary wonderland that quickly became one of LA’s signature art destinations
– Wind down for a break for the rooftop and the Ace Hotel – enjoy lunch and some drinks poolside or take a nap on the lounge chairs, both excellent choices.
– Hit up EP & LP for tapas, cocktails and major LA-people watching followed by a movie under the stars at with Melrose Rooftop Theatre
– End the night with a scoop of ice cream from Salt and Straw in West Hollywood

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my parents for creating an environment that empowered me and instilled the belief that anything is possible. Sometimes I may take it for granted, but their support, love, and education has molded me into who I am today. A person who always look at the glass as half full. A person who is independent in his own thoughts and actions. A person who isn’t afraid to go out into the world and chase their dreams. Shoutout to you guys, I love you!
