Meet Cory Grimes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Grimes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cory, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risk’s is something that everyone needs to do more often. I literally have a tattoo that says “Fear is not real”. You can’t be scared of taking a risk at something, especially if it’s something you think will make you happy. If it wasn’t for me taking a risk, I would not be where I am now in my life and career. I took the risk of buying a one way ticket from my hometown to Los Angeles to come out here to try and pursue my dreams. I pretty much only knew 1 person out here in LA, knew I needed to be here, and knew that it would be a great decision for my career and my overall life. I 100% believe that taking that risk has changed my life for the better.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer, videographer, and model. Even though i do all three of those things, i mainly consider myself a photographer. It definitely has not been easy to get to where i am at today professionally. I 100% taught myself how to do what I do for a living, along with the help of friends and the internet. It has been a slow grind to get to where i can make decent money and be proud of the product of work i produce. Even though it has been a slow grind, I have loved every minute of it. I am proud that i am able to photograph a wide range of different types of photography and not just stuck in one lane. From lifestyle, fashion, editorial, sport, music, product, and so on…I love it all. Also being a model, it has helped me better understand both sides of the lens, knowing how the model feels whenever i am shooting them, but also when i am the model, i understand and can learn from the photographer. One lesson I have learned along the way is to not be scared to put yourself out there. I am my company and brand, me putting myself out there to the world more, opens the doors for new opportunities for people to know me and my work. I want people to know that i have always stayed true to who i am and that will never change. I will always be open to learning new things and i will never stop getting better at my craft, this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to continue to get better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a tough question, because i am the least pickiest person, so i always want to do a million things and can never decide what to do. I would definitely take them to the beaches, especially Malibu, it’s my favorite place to go to, with the beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. I also would drive them through all the touristy spots. Even though they are not always the best places to go see, something about seeing those cool LA landmarks makes you feel a certain way and is something everyone should see at least once. I would also take my friends to some sort of sporting event. I love sports very much and so do most of my friends, so definitely either a football game at Sofi or a basketball game at Staples, we would have the best time. To eat, I would take them to either Burger She Wrote or Ggiata for some quick burgers/sandwiches. Then i love to go to Bacari on 3rd street, because it’s a great place for the atmosphere, vibes, and the food is amazing and great to share. Besides all that, I think just driving around to all the different neighborhoods of LA and showing them how different each area is and how Los Angeles is so huge and has so many things to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first people i thought about are my family. So I 100% want to dedicate my shoutout to my family. They have always been supportive of me and my journey in my career and life, since day one. I can’t thank them enough for everything and would love to pay them back for everything they have done for me one day.
