We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is something I feel everyone should do in their life. I think it’s such a big part of who I am that I feel without it I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am. Being safe you don’t lose anything but you also don’t gain anything and will never know if you should have done it and will always wonder “what if.” I took a big step when I dropped out of college and started modeling, the first year I didn’t book anything and I was so worried but I kept pushing myself to go forward with the career I actually wanted. I ended up moving from Orlando doing nothing but working my day job to Tampa FL. I booked several commercials when I got an agent and made another big jump to LA where I had to start all over again to make and do more. To this day I don’t think I will ever not take risk, just way my options more. I now started a vegan YouTube channel in order to start working with amazing vegan chefs and people who want to do more when it comes to health and environment. I think the next risk is going to be a great one! Just like all the other ones I’ve made.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is being me, bring a light to every audition I book, making friends in all circumstances and shinning. That’s what brought me to the industry. I don’t want to dim anyone else just uplift, I think that’s my art and I found a way to use it in the industry. I’m excited about starting this new venture in my life of being a vegan chef, I think I’m most proud about this because it’s me doing everything now on my own when it comes to editing, photos, lighting. I got help and it really stuck with me and I didn’t realize how much I’d love it. I think in the pandemic everything has been a challenge for everyone and it’s not easy but I know with push and perseverance everything will happen the way it’s suppose to. I’ve learned never to give up, ask for everything you need because the only answer you’ll get is yes or no. You can’t get anything if you don’t ask for it. I want people to know that who I am for them in their life is to make them happy, I think we should all strive to laugh more and do more good for others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends out of state would love to go to the beach, so I’d have to make a trip to Malibu beach first and spend a good portion of the day their. We’d eat at new places I haven’t been and I’d just go with the flow. Gokoku is one of my favorite vegan sushi restaurants and we’d order everything! I would go to a sound bath and relax with them and since we have a week we’d drive and go to the Red Woods, I haven’t been so to experience it with friends would be a great first!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Man!! I’m going to have to say my partner Brian Mann! from the beginning of starting the YouTube channel, he’s helped me and guided me through so much of the editing process and how to get better with lighting and just making me look my best! I wouldn’t have the YouTube channel I have today! When it comes to my career before all of this YouTube stuff, I lived with my friend Jen Bricker and she was an unreal help to me! I moved into her apartment and we became instant friends. I didn’t have a car and she helped drive me around to auditions, going to agencies to get signed and being such a big support for my career. It’s really hard to find friends like that and she was one of a kind.
