We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up with astrology and continually saw how my father would help people by looking at their charts. When I was younger, I never saw myself working with astrology professionally but all of that changed when I had my daughter almost 18 years ago. When she was born, she had a lot of health issue including mysterious seizures which nobody could explain. My father helped during that difficult period, using astrology, to help me keep positive and motivated that the difficult time would pass. Through his help, I was also able to come up with a system using the planetary movements to gauge my daughter’s good days and bad. Astrology helped me through that very dark period. Eventually my daughter got better and I got really good at astrology. I wanted to use the knowledge I had tapped into to help others get through their dark period too.

What should our readers know about your business?
After almost two decades, I have created a platform and business to professionalize astrology. It took a lot of years to prove myself and the planets to others. In the beginning, I began working anonymously. I had always wanted a more professional career and didn’t see astrology as such. When I began, astrology wasn’t as popular and accepted as it is today. It was a struggle to validate the science, which I believe it is. I wanted to have the freedom to express myself in the way I wanted and I chose to do it behind the scenes with a blog. With time, I gained a lot of credibility and so much so that the people I helped wanted to help me. Eventually, I began to become more visible and sharing more about the “Crystal” behind Crystal B. Astrology. Crystal is my real name by the way 😉 My connections with people helped my business grow and word spread. My success has come from all of these connections I’ve made with people around the world. They helped me to begin working with colleges and universities, which helped to set me apart from others. There are two very distinct memories I have in being on Columbia University’s campus and working with Harvard University’s students that really made me feel like I professionalized astrology. Eventually, I began working with businesses and continue to do so with team building workshops. The moments I conducted team building workshops in company board rooms were also major highs for me. These were additional markers of professionalizing the craft I love so much. I believed in something so much that I created a platform for it – in my own way. Today, I am so proud of what I’ve built. I wish I could do more but with time I know I will. Astrology is a tool that sheds light on so many facets of who we really are and I enjoying sharing it with others more than anything.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My office or what I call my “astro pad” is located in Montclair, NJ. It’s right on the outskirts of NYC and there’s a train into New York right outside my office. If someone was coming to hang out with me for a week, I would want to mix things up with 1) adding astrology into the mix 2) exploring Montclair (because it’s such a cool vibe town) 3) visiting some special spots in NYC and 4) heading to one of NJ”s beaches because the beach (in any season!) will always be my favorite place.

Here’s my itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival & official tour of my “astro pad” and all things astrology that I’ve collected over the years. A favorite piece is my 50 pound crystal ball, which I don’t use to tell you your planetary story! It’s a staple piece I got because a Crystal needs a crystal ball somewhere in her office. I will pull up your chart on one of the flat screens in my office and show you more about what’s happening in your astrology.

Day 2: Breakfast at Mercado which is a hop, skip and a jump from my office. I’ll order a very large coffee because I can’t live without it. We’ll visit Moss & More and check out some really cool botanicals and I’ll take you through its beautiful space where I’ve had a lot of live events (including group past life regression sessions). After that, we’ll head over to Flux Yoga (a town over) and take a noon yoga class. We’ll grab a health liquid lunch at my favorite Greenpoint Juicery in my home town of Verona NJ. I love their protein smoothies and avocado toast! After that, we’ll take a walk through Verona Park and then head back to my office in Montclair so I can wrap up a few business things while you watch 🙂 Dinner will be low key at home.

Day 3: We’ll wake up early and head into NYC for a museum day! Being an astrologer and speaking a picture language I always need visual inspiration. I also love going to museums. My favorites include the MoMA, the Cloisters, the Whitney, the MET and Guggenheim. We can’t hit all of them but we’ll try our best to get a few in.

Day 4: We’ll head into the Bronx to visit the NYC Botanical Gardens and eat lunch there. Flowers are power in my book! For dinner we’ll check out Faubourg in Montclair NJ and enjoy some of their delicious cocktails. I will probably suggest their Mango Margherita and I’ll likely have their Mango Mojito or Blood Moon.

Day 5: We’ll head to the NJ shore. Depending on our mood and the traffic we could go to Asbury Park and Ocean Grove. If we’re feeling like driving further we could hit my absolute favorite LBI (Long Beach Island). Wherever we choose, our beach day will be an all day affair!

Day 6: We will just chill at my house and hang out, taking in all the places we’ve gone.

Day 7: Departure and holding onto new memories that we’ll treasure for a lifetime!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to both my parents and my daughter. My father was instrumental in teaching me about the movement of the planets and their influence on our lives. My mother was a catalyst to cheering me on in creating my business and platform. She was the driver to always help me believe in my success. My journey with my daughter is how I became what I am today. I would have never become so passionate about the tool of astrology without her and all we went through.
