We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal J. Huang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal J. Huang, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Working is a life style to me. If life is about finding enjoyment, then I find enjoyment from working. If life is about fulfillment of dreams, then I find fulfillment through working. I never see working as opposite to living.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making movies after enjoyed a successful business career as an IT expert. I feel blessed that Hollywood does not reject late comers like me. It was never easy but I had confidence with my passion and dedication to my childhood dream. I worked hard and found professional friends who would help me. Facing challenges, the firm support from my family is the most reliable backup. I believe in acting rather than thinking. Only by taking action, it becomes possible to identify real issues and figure things out. I hope my movie to tell the audience that beauty of female power and love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I probably would make some arrangement like the follows:
Sunday: pick her up at the SFO airport and have a fine meal at a upscale restaurant by the water front, seeing sea birds flying in the sky while airplanes taking off and landing. After that taking her to a ballet show at the civic center.
Monday: take her to ferry to visit Angel Island early in the morning, on the way back to San Francisco, visit Muir Woods National Monument, then the Golden Gate bridge and Palace of Art. Afternoon, visit Pier 39 and North Beach, then some of the the Golden Gate Parks. Have dinner at Japan Town under the Peace Pagoda.
Tuesday: visit Stanford University, then IT companies such as Facebook, Google, Intel, Cisco. Then Visit friends at Atherton.
Wednesday: Visit Livermore wineries and have wine tasting, having lunch at Poppi Ridge Gold Course. See the rotating Livermorium spinning Globe in downtown, drive around the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Then drive through Pattern Pass and stop at the “Top of World” to see the thousands of windmills spinning in wind. Then drive to Yosemite National Park and spend a night there.
Thursday: spend most of the day in Yosemite, hike and appreciate the scenes. Drive to Lake Tahoe in the late afternoon. Stay in Tahoe for the night.
Friday; Ski trip and sight seeing around the Tahoe area. Spend another night there.
Saturday, back to the Bay Area, drive up the Mt. Diablo and appreciate the whole view of the San Francisco bay area from the top of the peak. Then visit UC Berkeley. Send her to SFO airport.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dark Feathers is loosely based on my experience when I was a ballroom dancer. The misfortunes of my partners after dancing with me (they dead or disappeared) is the inspiration of this project. If I had to name a person, that would be Mr. Ma Mingwei, who was my last dancing partner and the first victim of the Monterey Park Dancing Studio Mass shooting occurred early this year. I would feel proper to dedicate this movie to my past dancing partners.
