We had the good fortune of connecting with Cyann Ribeiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cyann, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think life is all about the chances you take, and those chances usually involve some sort of risk. I moved from Boston to Los Angeles with no apartment. Sold all my stuff a d took back my deposit and bought a one way ticket. But if I didn’t take the risk of losing it all, I wouldn’t have all I have today
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I moved here with a job, in search of an apartment, with one a friend. It wasn’t easy but it’s what I wanted so I didn’t care if it was easy or not. I started modeling when I was younger and it transitioned into acting years later. It took me a while to book consistently, and I worked full time at a hotel for 7 years of the 10 I’ve been here in Los Angeles, so that took up time too. It’s easy to get distracted in LA too, so to begin with I wasn’t as disciplined as I should’ve been. But when I did start booking consistently in 2017, I became more focused. I took poetry I had been writing for years and published a best selling poetry book on Amazon, “Driven: from love and war to poetry”. It’s a memoir of poems and stories over a 10 year period. Being in Los Angeles, acting, and writing book really helped me learn not to take things personally, to worry about and focus on myself first and foremost, and also not to hurt or use anyone along the way. It seems that’s what this town is all about but I know I’ll make it just fine being compassionate and real.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend visits I like to show her the best time. We’d get up and hike at Runyon canyon. I’d make us breakfast and smoothies. We drive out to Palm Springs and catch a tan in the heat by one of the salt water pools out there. Next day, drive back and head to venice beach to bike ride. Maybe go a little more south and skate by Manhattan beach. Lunch at Cafe Wild, with beach views. Have dinner at castaway in Burbank. Brunch on a Sunday at Eat This Cafe. Lunch at the rooftop at the peninsula. Pick up dinner to go and eat at the lookout at universal studios. Movie night in the house the night before she leaves.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my girls Yessenia, Vicki, Denita, and Vonetta for always being there for me when I want or need company and knowing just what to say to comfort me when I don’t.
