Meet Dahlia Danton | Image Consultant, Creative Artist, and Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dahlia Danton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dahlia, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Every morning – and I mean every morning! – I get up at 4AM and meditate for two hours. Then I begin to cook hemp and chia seeds in chicken broth and white wine on a low flame. This concoction is ready by 8 and I slowly eat what vaguely looks like gritty joint compound with half of a cassava melon. It’s a great colonic cleanser. I usually feel fairly tired when I’m done so I typically lie down on a low wooden pallet and doze off for about 40 minutes or so. By noon, I’m ready to go to my studio. Since most of my artistic process has to do with self-promotion, I only actually paint for about 20 minutes. The rest of the afternoon is spent on social media. In the evening, I meet up with my boyfriend, the French artist Currado Malaspina, and we share a light dinner while streaming movies on the Criterion Channel.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A lot of people are very critical of social media. They claim that it’s vapid, vain, frivolous, manipulative, superficial, distracting, misleading, and dangerous. While all that is true, it’s hard to conceive of a career in anything without it. Let’s be honest. Most people spend hours and hours scrolling all sorts of nonsense on their phones and computers. Why shouldn’t I have a presence within that trash? I’m not going to sit under a rock somewhere hoping someone will “discover” my genius! And between you and me, I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer. My actual work is pretty mediocre. But with my inflated persona on social media, I’ve created an image of myself that really stands out. You would think I was Einstein, Picasso and Frida Kahlo all wrapped in one cute package.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love having guests from out of town! I always take them to Benny’s Charred Meats on Norton Street in West Hollywood. They have the best hoagies in town. I also bring my friends to the beach in Playa Del Rey. It’s amazing how the airplanes are constantly flying overhead. My friends (who have never been in the military) have never seen anything like it! If my guests are literate, I usually include a poetry reading or two. If they are visually oriented, I take them to David Schoffman’s studio just so I can prank David (he hates visitors).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be nothing without the support of the international artists’ collective The Plausible Deniability Project™. If you’ve never heard of them, please look them up! In my opinion, they are the truest reflection of contemporary art’s current predicament. Unfortunately (or fortunately) one can’t simply join the collective. They are very, very selective. You have to be nominated. Once you are under consideration, you are subjected to a series of grueling interviews and portfolio reviews. If you’re accepted you can pretty much walk away feeling a sense of tremendous accomplishment. The group includes luminaries like Boris Lemon, Sofia Lagrimar, Spark Boon, Orestia Shestov, David Schoffman, Timmy Black, Tina Black, Ezra Carpentier, and Currado Malaspina. You see what I mean!? These are the absolute leaders and shapers of the art world!
