We had the good fortune of connecting with Daija Moore-Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daija, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
What inspires me most, is myself. When I feel down or unmotivated, I look back at all of my old content from when I was younger, I look back at my youtube page or an old journal that had my goals in it. I always find myself in awe because every year I’ve made tremendous progress, and I know that the younger me would be so proud of where we are right now.
While I do use other people other to inspire me- nothing or no one hits home like when I remember how far I’ve come. When I look back at my old content, I remember how life was, the hard times I was facing and I say, “Girl, if you were able to go through what you were going through, and still prevail and make it to where you are now, imagine what else you can do!”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I launched “The Moore Marketing Agency” on Christmas Eve of 2022. I specialize in social media management, strategy, content creation, and community building. Having a business as a digital marketer/social media manager was never in my plans. I’ve always been focused on radio and having a career as a radio personality. I started doing social media work at the radio station I work for and realized I loved it! I was like, “Wow! You’re so good at this,” my boss and co-workers were so amazed! I then had the bright idea, “What if I can make money doing this? That would be an extra income doing yet another thing, that I love!” So I planned and started my business. I fell into another passion by mistake.
Being a new entrepreneur has been an interesting journey thus far.
Being an entrepreneur isn’t linear to instant success is what I am now learning. When I was planning and mapping out my business, I thought I would be a millionaire within the first six months! I thought it would be so easy and a breeze. It has not been that! Balancing a business while working an 8-5 pm and having a career as a radio personality has been a bit of a struggle because it feels like something will always be slighted. And I had to accept that and tell myself it’s okay to take a break from trying to be three people at once (a corporate girl, a radio personality, and a business owner), it’s okay to be one person a day.
There was a time when I was clientless and I was beating myself up for that because I started off so strong, and worked with big companies and names, and then I felt like I hit a hiatus of nowhere and that’s not what I planned for myself. At that moment is when I decided to have a different perspective and use my time being client-free to rebrand, create more content, and learn new ways to upgrade my business.
While I am currently in the midst of my challenges, one thing I realized is that you have to keep going! You have to still push and plaster your business everywhere even if you don’t have any clients, even if you’re not making the money you want, or even if you’re not as confident as you once were when you started. Remembering why you started, and your passion- will always keep you going!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give a huge shout-out to my Mom! Without her support and constant push, I don’t feel like I would be where I am. There’s nothing like a mother’s love, and support. She keeps me grounded, she reminds me of how talented I am, that I can literally do and be anything I want, and having that push in my life 24/7 has been such a blessing.
My Mom literally keeps me going.
