Meet Damian Morrison | Game Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Damian Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damian, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been interested in creating things. Games is how I choose to express it. Seeing graffiti and other street inspired art really kickstarted my feelings toward what I do. To be able to make something and have someone interact with it is crazy! Game Design really is my sort of digital graffiti art. Interactive story telling just takes you places other mediums can’t.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Yo! I’ve been working on a game for around 6 years now called “DAMAGE DEALERS” it’s basically a cocktail of literally everything I love in life and I really can’t wait to show people! Music, dance, beats, and battles? Come on dude I can’t wait. Making it has been such a wild ride and finishing it is even wilder.I’m an indie game developer so managing things like financing, talent, and time really is key. Heck I’m still learning! I really learned a huge amount in this process and it’s hard to really quantify it. But if I had to say something I’d definitely single out the process of getting things out of your head. I feel like everyone has idea they either wish they can do or fantasize about. For me, I took those feelings and literally put it to paper. It’s changed hundreds of times. Even after all that I’m proud of what we accomplished. Hopefully when people play it, they will feel the same since or high style and contrast you see from looking at graffiti art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know I’m going to get some comments about this from my friends but DTLA. It’s basically a great place to see exactly what I’m talking about. Comfy? No. Charming? Not exactly. I inspirational? Absolutely. There’s always fresh graffiti and people putting up new art. I feel like it’s a great example of seeing some premier pieces. After that, we would for sure head to north Hollywood to grab a pizza box full of sushi from i8. Their stuff is amazing and it’s a pretty cute spot. Afterwards straight to Malibu hills to watch the sun roll down!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m dedicating this shout out to my father! He’s been there for me every step of the way when it came to preserving my spirit and love of video games. Without his nurturing of this skill I would have never pursued games as a realistic medium. So shouts out to you pops.
