We had the good fortune of connecting with Dane Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dane, what is the most important factor behind your success?
EcoCart’s success, rooted in my passion for global betterment, drives our journey in sustainable entrepreneurship. Building EcoCart has showcased the power of passion and resilience in overcoming startup challenges. Our commitment to a sustainable vision has propelled us through technological innovations and shifts in consumer behavior. The key to our success lies in unwavering determination, believing that businesses can be a force for good. EcoCart is dedicated to making the world better by empowering businesses and consumers to choose sustainability at the point of purchase. This commitment fosters a global shift toward conscious consumerism and environmentally-friendly business practices. Ultimately, our success is driven by a relentless pursuit of a better world, inspiring a community to join us in championing sustainability for a more equitable and environmentally conscious future. EcoCart is not just a company; it’s a movement.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
EcoCart was founded with the mission to make the fight against climate change easy, affordable, and accessible for everyone. They’re leveraging the immense power of digital commerce as a force for good in the world and making the world a more habitable place for our families into the future.
While running a previous company, founders Dane Baker and Peter Twomey realized the difficulties of scaling a business while staying rigorous with sustainability ambitions — everything had an unavoidable carbon footprint and they, like many other businesses, had to prioritize their bottom line as a company over what was best for the environment.

Soon after, Dane and Peter were introduced to the carbon offset market as a means to reduce the environmental effect of the ‘unavoidable carbon footprint’. After much, much, research and due diligence, EcoCart was born.

EcoCart is a tool for retailers that gives shoppers an option for a carbon neutral order @ checkout. With the click of a button, shoppers can fund certified carbon offset projects (like planting trees or building wind farms) based on the specific carbon footprint of their order.

Sustainability is now a driving factor in consumers’ purchasing decisions. That’s why the 2,000+ retailers that use EcoCart like Walmart, Zegna, Dockers, Supergoop!, BarkBox, Olipop, Cuts Clothing, and Enfamil are seeing a massive boost to customer loyalty and engagement as well as up to 22% increase in cart conversion rates.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d spend a day in Santa Monica and a day in Santa Barbara. In SM, we’d go to the Promenade and the Bungalow and end the night at Mastro’s Ocean Club in Malibu. In Santa Barbara, we’d hit up State Street and the Funk Zone to a few breweries and end the night at the Cliff House Inn in Ventura.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
