We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Tygr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, what is the most important factor behind your success?
It’s not easy to specify one particular factor that can point to success for me. Success has been a result of a blend things that has shifted over time. For me, it all began when a seed was planted by my first mentor, he opened a door for me when he taught me to “never say no” and encouraged me to put myself out there. From then on, building on an undiscovered creative talent and passion changed the trajectory of my entire life and lead to tremendous fulfillment. The most important factors that have lead to unbelievable achievements in my life have been professionalism, support, humility, fortitude and focus. Building my business over the past 15 years, is how I’ve defined success. My hard work and fortitude has made way for optimal success in terms of the work I have done in creating and executing looks for VIP clients, red carpet events, weddings, editorial photo shoots, fashion runways, music videos, Hollywood set work, film, television, professional beauty brand campaigns and many other entertaining affairs. My professionalism has led to opportunities to work with on air talents for CNN Worldwide, Netflix, TNT, Warner Bros Studio, Fox Studio, Comedy Central and PBS. An attitude of humility has allowed me to learn so many valuable things from other Artists that I respect and look up to. This collective of knowledge and experience led to a time where I was hired by major beauty brands as a consultant. Receiving that recognition and respect for my ideas as a seasoned artist in the industry was such a validating experience that would not have been possible without the support of other artists that were there to teach and encourage me. Staying plugged into the stream of what’s happening in the industry is so important but even more so is staying focused on what I am doing and not comparing myself to anyone else. Every artist is so unique in what they have to offer, according to their personal journey and passions. I believe that staying focused on MY business is what led to me being listed as a Top Social Media Beauty Influential Artist by Modern Salon Magazine and a 5X Behind The Chair Global Award Nominee. Over the past 15 years, I have been blessed to experience all of what this industry has to offer and now I can stand in a space knowing what brings me happiness. My faith is the rock I stand on and the solid foundation that I have been able to build my business on. Upholding my morals, being genuinely kind and having integrity not only in my work but in who I am has been the cement that has pieced together a lifetime of success in the beauty industry. Presently, an unforeseen blessing of prosperity has come into my life with my partner Philip Wolff and I merging our successful business! So now “success” shines in the form of making dreams come true for my clients and growing ‘what’ I love ‘with’ the person I love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My story is not typical as I’ve worn many hats throughout my 15 year career in the beauty industry including hair stylist, makeup artist, assistant, salon manager, creative director, sales director, consultant, educator, platform artist, content creator, influencer, artist manager, industry executive and more! Having a degree in communications paired with a vast taste of all that this amazing industry has to offer has allowed me to carve out a unique space for myself. Initially I wanted to utilize my skills as a liaison between corporate beauty companies and professional beauty artist. I worked toward this goal within the largest community in the world for a salon professionals (whom shall remain nameless 😉 and let’s just say I quickly discovered that was not the place for me. That was a really difficult time for me where, after 10 years, I considered leaving the beauty industry all together, but when we use what feels like failure as motivation to grow, we can create unimaginably beautiful things. I decided then and there that I wanted to work with and for people I respect and value, artist with integrity who were honest and genuinely wanting to elevate our industry and make a way for artists of the next generation. I aligned myself with the right people and with fortitude and humility I focused on what success was for me. I’ve hung up a few of my hats, for now 😉 and today I work as an independent professional in the field of beauty from my home in Los Angeles. My partner Philip Wolff and I work as professional hair artist in our private suite in Beverly Hills. We also work together running a business we created called The Wolffpack, (www.PhilipWolffHair.com) a safe online artist community and we are partners with a one of a kind beauty tool company called ZUKA (@thezukaexperience). Along with working hard at these wonderful fulfilling jobs, I am currently in a season of battling late stage Lyme disease so the work I do is more important then ever. Having a chronic and debilitating illness gives me a very different perspective on what is important and has forced to me to prioritize my efforts. I’m truly blessed to have come to a place where I can have the freedom of owning my own business and am able to be creative as an artist while pursuing my passion; supporting artists and companies I respect and value that are honoring and elevating this BEAUTYful industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This city has SO much to offer that you can customize any experience depending on the person who is visiting! Personally one of my all time favorite places to visit, being a beauty nerd, is Griffith Observatory. There is something so special about that place that takes you back to old Hollywood, the days of James Dean and Natalie Wood where “Rebel Without A Cause” was filmed right there! That was true Hollywood stardom. Its also a place that really humbles you. You can see such a gorgeous view of all of Los Angeles and then, during a particular show in the planetarium, the film pans out from your spot on that hill, all the way to outer space and you realize how tiny you are in this vast universe. It can really change your perspective in such a unique way!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Too many to list! lol But without a shadow of a doubt, Mr. Philip Wolff (@philipwolffhair) has played the biggest role supporting, encouraging, mentoring and loving me for the past 5 years. Also, One of my dearest friends and someone I REALLY look up to is Alfredo Lewis (@alfredo_lewis). He took me under his wing for a time and the things I learned, even just from watching him grow and create a place for himself in our industry, were truly inspiring.
