Meet Daniel Armando | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Armando and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me, choosing the artistic creative route was something I thought about long and hard. To dive into making this a career was a choice I made once I graduated high school. I knew that this was the best way for me to really push myself to have a voice. I made this choice because I wanted to have the freedom to express my ideas and thoughts without constraints.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a filmmaker currently residing in New York. I have directed five indie features and two series for Here TV. My passion is making films, especially films that are not traditional in terms of storytelling. With the help of my friends I have been blessed to create the films that I want to see. I’m proud to have put pen to paper, then paper to screen. Throughout my time as a filmmaker I’ve learned the meaning of patience and determination. I’ve overcome financial challenges and rejection.
Ultimately finishing a film from beginning to end is like climbing a mountain. And it always feels amazing when you are at the top of that mountain. But once I’m done completing a film, I always hope there’s an audience waiting at the bottom of the mountain, wanting to watch it. I hope that through my work audiences can find a part of themselves in the story or characters. Films can bond people and make them think in a different way, see a different perspective. That for me is the best thing about being an artist, the effect you can have on others. The emotions that a film can conjure up. I would love people to know that as a filmmaker I make my art to spark conversation, spark something bigger than me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite neighborhoods in New York is Astoria, Queens. Close to midtown Manhattan, Astoria has a bustling community filled with great “mom and pop” shops and great restaurants. In the city, one of my favorite places to visit is Central Park. I love the nature and tranquility that it offers and also the great views of the surrounding buildings.
At night The Village in downtown Manhattan is a great area to be. I love a cozy speak-easy and craft cocktail.
On weekends if the weather permits, I love a good bike ride along the Hudson River.
And I usually end my week at an indie film cinema house followed with dinner and drinks in The lower West Side.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to my collaborators. My chosen family that has lifted me up and supported me along the way. As a young artist, it was my friends who really championed my work and gave me the space to really be creative and bold.
