Meet Daniel Gross | Film Curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Gross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s fun, it’s hard work and always a challenge, and it also satisfies some silly bug in my brain to make things.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We screen roughly 30 films a month + live comedy and music events. We’re open 7 days a week. I also set a goal to show at least 1000 individual films before any repeat showings, so that’s always the task at hand!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a pretty fresh transplant to this country and city, it’s always about the diners. My absolute favourite, no matter what. Booth seating, giant menus, 24 hour service. Feels like I’m in a movie. So: Canter’s, Astro, Swingers, et al. Also, classic “Hollywood” restaurants like Musso & Frank or Dan Tanas. The dog park in WeHo, Griffith Park (The steep hill off Commonwealth Ave), or the Runyon trail that has all the trinkets along it.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family (easy choice), but also all the independent curators and artists around town – Secret Headquarters, Whammy Analog Media, Non Plus Ultra to name a few.
