We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Seyum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think taking risks in this industry is very important. It’s always good to think outside the box, and do what no other photographer has done before. Forget about people not supporting you. I mean, it’s always good when people appreciate your work. But if you don’t get to support you think you deserve, do not feel discouraged.. I always quote the movie Field of Dreams “If you build it, they will come”. If you keep laying those bricks down, eventually you will build your house . And to add to that, being humble and sticking to your word always go a long way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others, is when I organize a photo shoot, I tell a story. For example, I did a photo shoot not too long ago. It was a 90’s theme photo shoot focused around the time when high school students walked out of Highschool, and began protesting against Prop 187. California Prop 187 was a 1994 ballot initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit illegal immigrants from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the State of California.
With everything going on nowadays, illegal deportation, racial profiling, police brutality, systemic racism. I felt doing a Prop 187 90’s theme shoot would be suitable in regards to what’s going in our Brown neighborhoods, and comparing to how it was in 1994. I titled my photo shoot ‘History repeats itself’. In addition, I also had the models wear a 90’s controversial clothing gear called ‘187 Hudda’, along with a 1989 Honda Accord. I want everything to be authentic as possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Basically, all of Southern California there’s many things to do. Maybe during the day, we would hit the beach have a couple drinks and eat food. And then at night, check out a comedy improv. There are many things to do in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
People I wanna shout out are my brothers, who keep encourage me, pushing me to do better in life. My fiancée who tells me never to give up and pursue my dreams.
