We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniela Azuaje and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniela, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without risks I wouldn’t be where I am now. It has played a key part, both, in my professional and personal life. “El que no arriesga, no gana” which means: No risk, no reward. Risk is that exciting point between fear and taking a leap of faith. Making it happen while letting go of control of the outcome is an exhilarating and empowering achievement. Once you’ve learned to work with fear, you learn to say YES to living. This professional journey has shown me when you are prepared for a role, you’re focused and have the right mind set, you can achieve anything you want to accomplish.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a venezuelan actress working in Hollywood, I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to get roles that fill me with joy and passion. From being part of an Academy Award Finalist in the Alternative Category with the film “Transient Passengers (Experiment Number NÜN)” directed by the talented Natalia Hermida to starring in “DeMonica” with one of the main characters of “Narcos”, Francisco Denis. Most recently I had the pleasure of co-starring in the acclaimed TV show Mayans MC with incredible actress Mia Maestro and Elgin James, director, writer and showrunner.

I’m a PASSIONATE creative being, a story teller, a woman who loves inspiring people to achieve their goals and dreams. Through film, tv and theater, my desire to reach people can be turned into action. I’m a lover of life, of the here and now, I’m a warrior for Social Justice, I always find ways to connect my art with my humanitarian side. I run a non-profit organization called Canaima Project, which seeks to provide food and education for children in need in my country of origin: Venezuela. I think leaving the country you’re from and trying to make it as an immigrant elsewhere can be quite challenging. I’ve been blessed to have family and friends that support me in my journey of the never ending creation called life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, so many places to explore, things to do and delicious food to eat! I would start the day going for a hike at Griffith Park so they can get a better view of the Hollywood sign, then we would take a drive to Pasadena, explore the architectural heritage, have venezuelan food at Chamo AND Amara Café, Then, we would take a smooth ride passing by the PCH and go to the Getty Villa in Malibu, afterwards, enjoy the sunset drumming sessions in Santa Monica/Venice beach, go visit the iconic places where “Pretty Woman” was in Beverly Hills. We would make a stop by Sushi Stop in Studio City, it is quite addictive. Go out dancing of course! Salsa at Sofitel Hotel with a live band. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Miguel Ferrer is a venezuelan director/writer and a natural born hustler. He has been a source of inspiration and mentorship. He selected me to be his lead role on one of his last projects “Demonica”. He’s taught me resilience, that anything can be done with a vision, structure, dedication, hard work and also team effort, without leaving behind some spice! I’m very thankful for him and he’s definitely going places. So Shout out to you Miguel, el Jefe!
