Meet Danielle Horne | Counselor, Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Horne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The power of transformation. The power of transformation can reconnect you to your authentic self. We fold ourselves in or make ourselves small to make others comfortable. Ultimately, they don’t like us, and we don’t like who we’ve become—rising self-resentment and plummeting self-esteem cause self-doubt to creep in. We are confused about how we got there and don’t know how to get out. Reestablishing your self-worth and self-trust is only the beginning. By increasing boundaries and assertiveness, you can recapture the strengths you’ve lost and put yourself back on your own list. I help people get clear about who they are. Then they know what to do. Being able to hold space for that process is a privilege.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets my business apart is transparency. I only see clients with problems I have also worked through, and I continue my personal journey of healing. I specialize in couples therapy and childhood trauma and have personally experienced both. While I have a background of constant study, I also practice introspection. Where did I fail? What am I afraid of? What am I challenged by? That helps me give practical examples to my clients. I do not take clients somewhere within themselves that I have not been within myself. I give clients practical wisdom like, “the NO protects your YES” and other tips for boundaries and self-esteem.
My business is expanding. I’m launching my YouTube channel – Degrees of Healing. I’m launching a men’s empowerment group. I’m creating a relationship course for this fall. So, a lot is going on. I’m completing my doctoral studies at Fuller Seminary in 2025. My dissertation is a course about the business of counseling. University programs do not cover this important aspect of becoming a counselor. When you graduate from a counseling program, you feel set adrift in rough water. I started meeting monthly with a consultant who has industry experience while I was a counseling associate. Having a mentor, belonging to an association, and participating in it is essential.
I want people to remember to add LIFE to your living! Be intentional about adding something you enjoy. You are important enough to be on your own list! If your life keeps you from living, you may need to change it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I visit LA to spend time with family and friends. When in town, I enjoy a Cuban sandwich and guava cookies from Cafe Cuba & Cakes, soul food from Delicious at The Dunbar, and a cobbler from Sweet Red Peach. Telling you about that made me hungry!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to thank my father, mother, uncle, and brother for their encouragement, helping me stay afloat in the infancy of my business. A special shoutout goes to the two counseling associations I am a member of, the San Francisco Psychological Association (SFPA) and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, East Bay (East Bay CAMFT). Through membership in the SFPA, I’ve advanced my trauma processing skills. Group consultation has been invaluable for clinical and emotional support. With their kindness and guidance, I am growing as a therapist and a human. I’m in the social scene with other therapists through East Bay CAMFT. I’ll partner with both organizations to promote mental health in the community. My time with SFPA and East Bay CAMFT reminds me I am not alone. The journey of entrepreneurship can be very isolating. I recommend fellow entrepreneurs connect with their respective associations for support.
