Meet Danny Koerber | Reality TV Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Koerber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danny, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was always passionate about film & television as a kid, but growing up in the south was pretty tough, as it can be for a lot of creative people! I was bullied pretty badly for not acting “masculine” enough so I think that kind of forced me to try to be a “normal” kid instead of pursue those passions. I grew up thinking it’d be impossible to work in the industry without having connections or being rich so I gave up. I managed bars and catering service at the Houston Rocket’s stadium which, although a busy and exciting job, was not my passion. One day my partner and I decided to just go for it so we sold everything we owned and bought a one way ticket to LA. We knew we couldn’t afford to start over and go to film school so we lived in Airbnbs and started working for free on student films just to learn all we could about the industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a reality tv producer, I get to be a part of some truly incredible and talented teams to help tell other people’s stories. The shows that are the most fulfilling for me personally are those that deal with tough subjects but are inspirational to the audience. I think when you’re dealing with real people’s lives, that can sometimes resonate with an audience in a way scripted television can’t. It’s a rewarding experience just to be a part of that with a stellar group of talented story tellers. I think everyone has a story to tell. I definitely never thought I’d be able to work in television, but I’m glad I took the risk to move out here. The biggest lesson I’ve learned sounds cliché, but it’s just been to stay humble and grateful for each opportunity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love LA! The energy can be electric here. I like the rooftop at Mama Shelter’s. They have an amazing Jalapeño Margarita.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many human gems have given me opportunities and I can trace my career back through the Network Exec and Showrunner who took chances on me, to the friend who got me hired, to the film students who were gracious enough to let us learn from them. Truly grateful for them all!
