Meet Daphney Brown | The Brown Styles Group

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daphney Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daphney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The true reason for starting my business came after finding out I was pregnant again and my other child was in her last year of high school. I knew the long hours I worked and how it affected family time while raising my oldest and didn’t want to do the same with the newest addition. After long consideration I thought “Why not start a real estate business?” It was something I’ve always thought of, but never truly had the courage to pursue. Real estate was important because I wanted to teach my children, family and friends the benefits of investing into real estate and creating generational wealth. I knew I couldn’t leave a 9-5 to my children so I needed a career that can be passed on to generations to come.
Not too many people I know own property nor have thoughts of it. They assume they can’t achieve a goal like that. My goal, since becoming a Real Estate Professional, is to change the narrative. To educate not only the people closest to me, but to educate those in my community. My mission is to educate each and every client about the market, the application requirements and process and guiding them throughout the whole transaction. I not only help those that are pre-approval ready, but those that need guidance and resources to get prepared for a mortgage.
The joy I get after handing clients the keys to their new home is like non other. I want to help any and everyone I possibly can feel that level of accomplishment.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Brown Styles Group is my Real Estate business. Named after my kids and is something I would love for them to be a part of when the time comes. Buying real estate is the biggest investment you will make in your life. It will be one of the most important and emotional decisions you will make. My mission is to educate all clients before, during, and after each transaction. My goal is to help you create generational wealth through homeownership. Making the process go as easy and enjoyable as possible. Creating memories along the way!
I am most proud of having the faith to walk away from what I was used to and to pursue something I had no clue about and honestly was a little scared of. When I helped my first clients get the keys to their first home, the joy they felt was confirmation I was destined for this. I wanted to help everyone around me feel that same joy.
The journey hasn’t been easy at all. I got licensed right before Covid hit and honestly didn’t think I would still be in business. There are times when there are no clients, no closings, no commissions. There are also times when clients are back-to-back. The key is to continue being consistent in every aspect of the business. I’ve learned that this real estate business is just what you give to it.
I’ve learned that no matter my success, I can do anything I put my mind to. With prayer, faith and support from those closest to me, I’ve grown into a business owner achieving things I would have never guessed. Making my family proud along the way and showing them that they too can do the impossible.
If there was one thing, I would like you to know about my business, is that it’s not just for a check. It’s for those who don’t believe they can go after their dreams. It was started to teach my children to reach for the stars and never give up on yourself. It was started to let my family and closest friends know they too can create generational wealth with the right sacrifices and dedication!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’m from NY I find myself being a tourist at times even though I’ve been living here for quite some time lol. There are, however, some places I’ve visited that stood out. The very first thing I would suggest doing is driving the shoreline. I have drove to Palos Verdes and to Malibu and the fact that you can see the ocean so beautifully blows my mind. To me it’s peaceful and coming from NY where it’s cold and we rarely visited the water, I find myself feeling like I’ve escaped real life and drifted into a fantasy world.
I would suggest visiting the Griffith Observatory where you can not only see the Hollywood sign, but the views of the city are indescribable.
I would suggest visiting the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Wilshire Blvd. I’m a huge fan of museums, but what I love most about this one is the Urban Light Display outside of it.
Lastly, I would suggest the Castaway Restaurant in Burbank. The food and drinks are both very good. The views, however, are amazing especially if you go around sunset!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my children because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have the drive to become the best version of myself. I would like to recognize my family, my fiancé, my pastor and closest friends for the prayers, for believing in me, for all of the help, and for the encouragement even though they totally didn’t agree with my choices of walking away from my job. I would finally like to thank my broker and real estate family for seeing something in me I hadn’t, for pushing me to be the best possible and for always being there when I needed something.
