We had the good fortune of connecting with Darin Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darin, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Nowadays, with social media, there are gurus out there that say that it is easy to be successful, and to start your own business. I totally disagree with that. This is a daily fight! Very rewarding, but very stressful at times when your business is not made for everybody, you have to be a warrior!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey started when I was about 20 years old, and I wanted to get into the real estate business like my father. He owned a loan brokerage company, and I wanted to be part of it. But I realize fairly quickly that that was not my real passion my real passion was buying investment properties rehabbing them and flipping them. I bought my first one when I was 20 and continued for the next 22 years and was very successful at it. In 2008 I got overextended with developing houses and the market crashed. That was a huge blow being that I believe that I was invincible, and I could not lose. Well, that lesson was hard to swallow, and it taught me a lot. This next go around was definitely gonna be different for me with diversification after a couple years of trying to figure out my next direction I stumbled into the foundation repair business. I saw a true need in the market. It was very clear to me that this was going to be my focus starting from scratch. I learned a lot made some big mistakes but persevered through sheer determination of not letting myself fail again. Once I met my future wife Shanese, we partnered up and truly came up with something special with our foundation, repair company and our Drainage company. Since they won, the goal has always been to offer our clients services that we would give to our family. That is one of our mission statement is to treat every client as if they were our family. Today between the two companies we have over 50 employees +2 additional businesses that we run in total we will do over $10 million in business between all of our companies. We believe that this is just a start of our journey together to bless as many people as possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It would be very simple for me. My wife and I met at a country bar in Long Beach called Cowboy Country. We would start with a great meal since I’m such a foodie, and then we would cap off the night with taking our best friend out for some line dancing I may be a few cocktails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a number of people that have contributed to my success. But the number one person would be my mom. I grew up with a single mom, and she taught me how to be a good person, she taught me that I can be whatever I want to be, and that life is going to throw you curveballs and you have to fight your way through every situation. I grew up with having a poor mom and a rich dad, but they were divorced when I was one I live with my mom until I was about 13. Once I moved in with my dad I could really see the difference between having money and not having money. My dad was also one of my early mentors I would watch him and want to be like him. Then it grew into me, wanting to beat him. Lol so shout out to my mom and my dad for shaping me into the person I am today. I believe I can overcome just about anything. My journey has been up and down but once I figured out my WHY that has brought me great determination.
