We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darius, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, some would call me cornfed. That’s a great question. Well let’s see, I come from a big, loving, wild and gifted family. They all helped to raise me and my siblings, and instilled early in us qualities that have proved to be beneficial. At a young age we were pushed to be active and participate in sports, hobbies, or any other interests we had. To not be long winded… I would say those experiences allowed us to learn early about qualities such as; competitiveness, dedication, perserverance, grit, leadership, teamwork and cooperation, along with many other things. I would say besides being pushed to be involved in as many things as possible. There were things we faced at a young age, that taught us early that life isn’t always necessarily easy, and things aren’t always just handed to you… that you will be knocked down, the wind will be knocked out of you but you gotta get back up and continue to move forward. And I think learning that at an early age, has really helped us to push through trying times, and continue to move towards what we were put here to do, no matter how difficult or how many obstacles there may be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say as an artist, I’m still very much finding new ways to articulate myself. I would say my first love, was for photography and through that, I would like to catch whatever caught my eye, whether that was a scenic city view or a homie hanging out. Lately I have been using poetry as a creative outlet and I look to do more spoken word. This year I plan to release my first song, which will be a combination of spoken word and strings from most likely my acoustic guitar, which I am very excited to get into. It’s been an interesting road to get to where we are today professionally. Once I was out of college, it took some time to figure out what and how I wanted to do, and during that time I worked multiple 9-5’s to make ends meet. Much of it hasn’t been easy but I don’t think anything worth while does. There were many challenges, there was a time where we once lost our living and studio space and had to start from 0. We had to move back home with close to nothing and build not only ourselves back up but our brand. Though those challenges we learned that it takes hard work, it takes being flexible. It also gave us wisdom and knowledge on how to move forward and what works and doesn’t. I think all of these challenges and lessons are no coincidence and are very much crucial to becoming the best person and that then allows your brand to be the best it can be. I would like the world to know that our brand is here to help change the world and incorporate all kinds of different people to do so.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, currently we live in San Diego, California and the great thing is, there is plenty to do. There are so many great sights and views here. Great food, with great weather and just as good city life. Where do I start? I would definitely have to take them to get some Mexican food, so probably hit Old Town. If they’ve never had a açaí bowl, that would be part of the a.m routine with a trip to Kate O’ Sessions park for one of the best views over the city. I can’t forget Cafe De La O’pera, located downtown, which has some of the best organic coffee I’ve had in my life. For drinks and maybe some fire pizza, we would go to Bay City Brewery, and grab some IPA’s. For some fun, grab your hiking shoes, because we’re going to find one of the many trails or peaks to venture, or grab your towel, because we’re going to Coronado to hit the beach. There are so many fun things to do here, it would be hard to run out of ideas of things to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people I could recognize right now. But I will take this moment to recognize a book that fell into my lap at the perfect timing. And that book would be The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I would suggest that book to anyone who is on the journey of finding their purpose. Truly helped reaffirm what I was experiencing along my own journey, and inspired me to remain steadfast on my purpose.
