Meet Darryl Smith | Owner of Healthy Greens

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darryl, how does your business help the community?
I believe my business helps the community because we are giving the people organic fresh fruits and nutrition. We are fueling the community with plants and veggies. Most people want food that is processed or that is a quick grab and go. We want to change that narrative and have people understand what the body actually needs. Fast food is killing our community. Over at Healthy Greens we are trying to restore our community, not destroy it. The biggest thing is that we are trying to reach the young kids as well. They are the future. If they practice good eating habits NOW, when they get older, they will add alot more years to their body. Toxins kill us slowly, while fruits and veggies extend our lifetime, our body, our skin, even our mental.

What should our readers know about your business?
I played football majority of my life. Never worked a 9-5. I was always hustling and bustling with sports. After my football career, I moved into real estate. People always told me I have the “Gift of Gab”. Covid hit and things were slow. I failed the Real Estate Exam 2 times and passed the 3rd time. I was venturing out, stepping out of my comfort zone. I signed with keller williams and started my real estate career. One of my clients was selling her Juice Bar. I was never interested in buying it, but I wanted to help her sell. Long story short, I ended up buying it, and my Mom went 50/50 with me. The process was hell, they gave me a hard time saying I was too young, inexperienced, the whole 9. The previous owner Paula Nyguen stayed with me for 3 months and guided me. I cant thank her enough for that. April 1st was my first day as a business owner and also my first job ever. I had to learn quick, 3 people quit when they heard about the new ownership. That didnt stop me, it actually motivated me even more. It added more fuel to the fire. Its been challenging, being a young business owner is alot to take on. Especially when you have no knowledge of what your getting in too. Food is the hardest business, everybody kept telling me that. BUT, I loved it. I wasnt afraid to do something new. I wasnt afraid to step out on faith. I wasnt afraid to put all my eggs in one basket. Here Iam today, Owner of Healthy Greens. Still facing challenges. Still facing trails and tribulations. Still standing on my feet learning, growing, and building a empire. The biggest thing i learned throughout this process is that “you really dont know what your capable of doing, until you GO OUT AND DO IT ! Anything is possible, you have to believe! One day at a time. Step by step.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about LA is the dinner vibes! I mean you can go anywhere in LA and catch a nice vibe depending on what you are looking for. Im a foodie! I love trying new things and exploring different cultures! Sol y Luna here in the valley is one of my fav spots to eat. Panini Kabob Grill as well. Chef Shantai usually cooks my meal prep throughout the week, so weekends is my time to go out and explore. Sugarfish is top 3 as well. I love sushi!! California made me love sushi. I never used to eat it. I was scared, I mean the fish look like its still alive!!!! Stepping out to Santa Monica Pier is always relaxing. Your right on the ocean and theres always different vibes down there. Rooftops for brunch or dinner in DTLA is always nice and soothing. Hiking is also fun and exciting! The nature in LA is unreal. You never know what you are going to come across. People have exotic pets! But besides that, the views and the sunsets are amazing

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Judy Solomon. She is my #1 supporter. This women has had my back since Day 1. Always made sure I had food and clothes on my back. I never missed a meal. She also has spoiled me throughout my life with love and attention. Making sure when I was ready to leave home at 18 i was ready for the real world. She is the reason. I wouldnt be where Iam now without her.
