We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Shecter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How really difficult it is to achieve some sort of recognition. It is really a challenge and i now see why lots of people simply give up. You can do everything you’ve been told to do from lessons to pictures, reels, talking to people, networking, and at times it feels like your no farther along than you were when you started. It requires alot of sacrifices. you have to constantly work at it and put yourself out there and hope at some point your in the right place at the right time or somebody notices something youve done and wants to give you a shot.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im an Actor/Producer/Songwriter and i love doing it all. I think what sets me apart is going the extra mile. When im involved in a project, especially my own, ill do what it takes to get it done. Ill buy what i need, build sets, travel, what ever it takes. I work my real job a minimum of 50 hours a week and i do everything else around that except when im acting in another city ill take time off work of course. All my free time is devoted to the arts. Some things ive learned along the way is your better off doing it yourself if possible. Sometimes you invest in people and things that you think are on the same path as you and sometimes it works but most times you get taken. Move on and dont make that same mistake again. Most of the credit I’ve received i did on my own and ill keep going. I cant wait or rely on others do hold up on their end of the bargain. Im the guy you want on your side. I get it done.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OH my good olé Seattle, Well of course the usual tourist destinations such as the space needle, Seattle center, gas works, alki beach, Mt Rainer, Mt St Helens, the great wheel wheel on the waterfront where you’ll also find tons of seafood restaurants. and in the spring we have the Tulip Festival in Mt Vernon (which i wrote a song about). Then there’s Snoqualmie Falls, and numerous ski areas like Stevens Pass, white Pass, Crystal Mountain and more. I prefer to stay off the beaten path and visit our less know places like Wellington, the site of the deadliest train disaster in the U.S. on March 1 1910 killing 96. How about a short hike to the mining ghost town of Monte cristo which was active from 1889 to 1907. These are just a few of Seattle hidden gems.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Independent film makers and the actors and crew who support them. Film making at the independent level is not easy. We work on basically no budget or very little with a cast and crew who are willing to give there time, skills and talent to create art. Its a love for the art of film making and it feels like a big family and i appreciate all those who show up on set and give their time and i know they feel the same way.
