We had the good fortune of connecting with David Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, why did you pursue a creative career?
Freedom is the reason why I chose an artistic career. What I mean by that is, by letting my artistic flow through my vision. I’m a visualizer, and I just imagine different creative scenarios in my head. There’s not a wrong answer for me. I can be myself through my artistic side, and showing the world what I have created.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It wasn’t easy starting off as a photographer. Buying your own equipment is expensive, but you have to spend money to make money. I had to start off with family members to be my muse, so I can get practice with different sorts of lighting from the sun(I started off outside).

I discovered shade lighting(which I love), hard light, and just not so good lighting like overexposure. Practice makes perfect, and I’ve always stuck to that quote.

I worked my way up in studio lighting which I loved even more, because I can create my own techniques, by moving the light source.

What set’s me apart from others is that I love to continue to learn more new things, even if it’s self taught. I also love collaborating with other photographers, so I can give tips and tricks, and just help each other be successful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot would be the art district in downtown la. I would take my friend to the studio I always rent out, and take my best friend to the art district to eat, and wine down. It’s a whole creative city, and I just love the different aesthetic that downtown la has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My instructor Rose Cefalu, taught my a lot about photography. The business aspect, lighting, networking, and field you like to be in my photography era. Teaching me the credentials, and taking me on behind the scenes shoot with John Russo and meeting new amazing artists was amazing.
