We had the good fortune of connecting with David Goldstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind success is loving what you do. When you genuinely enjoy your work, it doesn’t feel like work—it feels like a fulfilling hobby or passion that also happens to earn you a living. This mindset allows you to focus less on the cost or challenges of a project and more on the final outcome. Envisioning the result before starting is crucial; it’s about having a clear vision and ensuring that the finished project aligns with that vision. Many people struggle to visualize their goals ahead of time, but being able to do so is what sets true artists and successful individuals apart.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Art Deco Apartments, we specialize in restoring historic buildings with a meticulous eye for authenticity. My journey began in the automobile business, where I honed my skills in preserving originality, and transitioned to revitalizing architectural gems from the 1930s. My goal is to restore properties in a way that honors their history—retaining the charm and character of their age while ensuring they remain functional and beautiful.

What sets us apart is our dedication to authenticity. While many restorers use replica parts, I collect and reuse original materials, ensuring every detail feels true to the era. This attention to detail has earned recognition, with others attempting to replicate our approach—a compliment that reinforces our unique value.

The process hasn’t been easy; it’s taken years of hard work, significant investment, and unwavering passion. Yet, I’ve learned that preserving history is a legacy worth leaving. I continuously improve and add to each property, creating something that will outlast my lifetime. Ultimately, I’ve been fortunate to turn this passion into a business, proving that with dedication, preserving history can also be incredibly rewarding.

I want the world to know that restoring these buildings isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about protecting and celebrating our shared history. At Art Deco Apartments, we strive to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also timeless reminders of a bygone era.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places to visit with people who are here from out of town are the Original Farmers Market, the Griffith Observatory, Larchmont Village, and I would definitely take them to a Dodgers baseball game because that team is my passion and to the Hollywood Bowl, one of my favorite experiences! I’d also want to include a trip to Santa Monica Pier and Abbot Kinney and Venice Boardwalk, then up the coast to Malibu and Malibu Seafood and Cross Creek Mall. Would have to include sushi at Katsuya, deli from Canters and Italian from Jon & Vinny’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success would not have been possible without the incredible team I’ve built over the past 25 years. They’ve been instrumental in bringing my vision to life and constantly offering ideas to improve it. I firmly believe that you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I’m fortunate to have a team that shares my passion and commitment.
